Oh my darlings, you simply won’t believe what happened this week! Milan, the fashion capital of the world, was calling and yours truly, Pink Tutu Sparkles, was ready to answer! As always, it's the little things in life that make it so magical and, well, darling, nothing makes my heart beat faster than a trip to the Continent - especially in a glamorous pink tutu!
Milan, as we all know, is a city built for strutting! And you just KNOW your favourite pink tutu loving queen was ready to unleash her inner fashionista. Honestly, darling, even my little pink heart couldn't contain the excitement when I realised the sheer abundance of beautiful fabrics and stunning fashion in this fabulous city. And, don’t get me wrong, there was no shortage of opportunities to wear my own dazzling pink tulle creations too!
But before we get to all the glamour, let me tell you about my journey. Now, a true queen knows that arriving in style is half the battle. So naturally, I decided to ditch the aeroplane and embrace the romance of a train ride! Honestly, there's nothing quite like sipping on a perfectly brewed English Breakfast tea (a must for any queen, of course!) whilst gliding through the countryside towards the dazzling heart of Italy. Plus, think of the dramatic train window photos!
And then, Milan! You wouldn't believe the fanfare I was given at the train station. It seems my pink tulle skirt wasn't the only thing catching people's attention. The locals loved the fabulous frills and feathers, and even a few little kids screamed, “Tutu! Tutu!” Now, if that's not a sign of approval, I don't know what is. It just shows that the pink tutu love knows no boundaries, not even a language barrier!
As soon as my luggage had been whisked away (my suitcase, for those who don't know, is adorned with more sequins and feathers than the entire stage of the Royal Opera House!), I was straight to the most fabulous hotel imaginable. Just picture it - an Italian palace with swirling staircases, grand rooms overflowing with flowers and, you won't believe this, even my own little personal balcony with the most perfect view of the Milan skyline! You wouldn't think they had anything so extravagant left after making my tutu! But they did, bless their souls. I honestly thought my pink tulle was the most dazzling thing in the room until the sun began to set.
So now, imagine a rooftop terrace bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun, a plate overflowing with exquisite Italian antipasti (did you know that they make the most amazing bruschetta with parmesan, tomatoes and truffle oil? Truly a treat for any queen!), a glass of chilled prosecco and… yours truly, Pink Tutu Sparkles, radiating my very own pink glow. Yep, life really does get better than that.
Of course, I wouldn't be Pink Tutu Sparkles if I didn't indulge in a little shopping, would I? After all, a queen's wardrobe must be filled with exquisite fabrics. You should see the haul I have: exquisite silks, velvety velvets, shimmery satins – you name it, I’ve got it! I could practically build a new wardrobe with the remnants of my fabulous shopping trip alone! All of these fabrics are just waiting to be transformed into glorious pink tutus, my darlings. I even found a beautiful, bright pink silk, perfect for a new ensemble. And let's be honest, who wouldn't want to see me swishing that vibrant pink fabric across the dance floor? The very thought sets my little pink heart a flutter!
But don't think it was all about the frills and feathers! This week, I took a journey into the heart of Milan’s fashion scene. You simply cannot go to the fashion capital without experiencing a world class ballet performance, darling! So, naturally, I bought a ticket for La Scala, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. I have to say, seeing the dancers effortlessly leaping across the stage in their breathtaking costumes - all while a beautiful symphony soared through the air, almost took my breath away. Honestly, the whole performance was so moving. They call them graceful dancers for a reason! They are, truly. And let's not forget about the beautiful costumes!
Then, of course, there’s the shopping, the cafe life, and even an exploration into the hidden treasures of local artisan markets! And believe me, my lovelies, nothing makes Pink Tutu Sparkles happier than browsing through handmade creations! Finding those exquisite, one-of-a-kind treasures really brings back that magical feeling of childhood discovery. You've got to be adventurous to truly appreciate these finds, I swear!
This city really inspired me, you know? I think I may have even started to inspire the locals too. By day I'm just plain ol' Alex, diligently working away in my little lab, testing fabrics. You can probably find me in a pink lab coat, which, I like to think is an excellent little nod to my love for everything pink! But when the evening comes, the lights dim, the music plays and the crowds gather, I'm Pink Tutu Sparkles. It’s honestly something pretty magical. And Milan just makes everything so much more dramatic and glamorous! I just love to see the looks on people's faces when they realise I'm actually a real life, dancing drag queen who is utterly, entirely obsessed with pink tutus.
I had such a great time in Milan. Now that I am back, it’s back to normal – or as normal as I can make it. My pink tutu is ready and waiting to be worn. The pink fabrics are piled up on the back of my chair. My lipstick and sequins are organised. I am back in the lab, testing fabrics by day, performing by night. There is just no stopping Pink Tutu Sparkles!
But one thing is certain, darling. If I can make a science nerd who's head over heels for tutus look glamorous and confident, anyone can. So put on your best pink outfit, spin around, strut your stuff, and most importantly, show the world the true meaning of pink power! Now go and make your day as fabulous as you deserve!
