Southall Calling!

Pink Tutu Sparkles' Fabulous Adventures, Blog Post #5238

Hello, my darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, and oh my, are you ready for another scintillating installment of my fabulous life?! Today's adventure takes us to the vibrant town of Southall, and let me tell you, it's a trip worth taking, especially for a girl who loves her colour pink and her tutus as much as I do!

This trip actually started yesterday. Remember my obsession with train journeys? The mere act of taking a journey is truly magical. Something about being crammed into a metal carriage and seeing the scenery fly by gets the old Pink Tutu creative juices flowing. And I won't lie, I did feel like a right little pink princess with my suitcase, sparkly top, and tutu, standing proudly on the platform of Derby Station.

As for getting ready for todayā€™s performance, it was truly an experience! The Southall Community Hall wasnā€™t your standard drag venue, more like an old, beautiful old school hall. It was rather atmospheric - especially once we draped it in a few pink drapes, courtesy of me, of course. After all, nothing shouts fabulous quite like pink, am I right? I mean, whatā€™s better than seeing hundreds of twinkling fairy lights illuminating a sea of pink chiffon and tulle? My heart actually did skip a beat when I looked at it - a perfect stage for a fabulous queen like myself, and oh yes, youā€™ll just have to wait for tomorrowā€™s post for details of the stunning custom-made tulle-based dress that was created especially for this show. I must say, I do have a weakness for a statement piece, a la a pink tutu ā€“ something bold, sassy and utterly fantastic! I wouldn't dare appear anywhere else without my fabulous, full, pink tutu - you've heard me rant about them a thousand times - I mean, think about it! It adds a splash of pink colour to the world and helps you reach new heights. Literally, as if the pink tutu magically gives me superpowers ā€“ or at least it does on a good night. I mean, everyone knows you can conquer the world with a tutu.

Of course, I couldnā€™t possibly have my makeup artist (the amazing Barry) get us ready without some sweet treats ā€“ why not make it extra special? So we spent an afternoon at this delightful tea room just round the corner, with tea and those lovely petit fours with strawberries. I mean, don't you think they just shout 'Pink Tutu Sparkles'? (Barry didn't get any ā€“ I am generous, but some lines canā€™t be crossed!) As we sipped our tea, Barry and I chatted about our fabulous costumes, our vision for the performance, our favourite vintage style dance routines - that ballet element is so essential - we all know, tutu means ballet ā€“ or it should! So we had to incorporate some balletic moves. I mean, even if itā€™s just some well placed ā€˜plieā€™ and ā€˜releveā€™, as if by accident, into the performanceā€¦you understand my message? A queen who knows the classic movements, can move just like a ballerina. A powerful pink ballet queen, that's Pink Tutu Sparkles for you!

Speaking of performances, the event tonight was hosted by the lovely Mary and Sarah who organise ā€˜Get your glitter onā€™ events, a very fabulous evening where we were celebrating Southall with the finest entertainment - I, of course, being one of the highlights - the audience were so lovely, very vibrant, lots of children running around, I am telling you, there is nothing I love more than performing to children ā€“ they adore Pink Tutu! They canā€™t quite make sense of it yet, but thereā€™s this raw, pure joy - it is just fabulous to perform in front of them. Even some of the boys, yes, boys, were quite literally awestruck ā€“ it gives you goosebumps to watch those little eyes light up. As soon as I was done with my show, I saw these two little boys dressed as princesses ā€“ now tell me, how adorable is that?! And they gave me a little thank you note, ā€œYou were amazing!ā€ I mean, it really is one of the biggest privileges I can think of, being Pink Tutu Sparkles. This isnā€™t a hobby, itā€™s a way of life! Being a beacon of sparkly fun and bringing some fabulous pink into your lives - my real joy! It gives a little magic to everyday lives, even to scientific research... you're getting this whole dual life of mine. Well, actually, I have to say that most of my scientist friends don't know much about my fabulous double life! Youā€™ll see some photos of me wearing lab coat and googles, all safety regulations adhered to, and you would never believe itā€™s the same person.

For example, the fabrics Iā€™ve been working on for my latest fashion designs (weā€™re talking silks, sequins, and more chiffon, naturally, you understand meā€¦) well, those came directly from our fabric-testing lab. Yes, Iā€™ve had to go all ā€œseriousā€ scientist on them - test their tear-resistance and durability under all conditions! A queen like Pink Tutu needs to make sure every performance is impeccable and our outfit survives even the wildest stage routines, the unexpected little girl pulling a skirt during a high kick. It does make for an interesting conversation when you are trying to explain your research. 'What are we going to test now, Alex?' My colleagues always have a right old chuckle! Well, I guess I make them see a little bit of ā€œmagicā€ during the daily routine - some sparkly glamour. They think Iā€™m mad ā€“ I donā€™t know what else to say! But really, I am not that mad.

Well, today has been pretty much perfect! Not only did I enjoy every single second of performing in Southall, but we got the best picture with the gorgeous community hall entrance ā€“ we look like something out of a film, just the perfect lighting! (Look out for it in the photo post this week!). So, tomorrow, itā€™s on to my next gig - that's all I can tell you about it ā€“ but donā€™t worry, I will be sharing every glorious detail.

Have a fabulous, pink-filled weekend, and remember, never be afraid to embrace the fantastically fabulous,

Pink Tutu Sparkles šŸ’‹āœØ
