Hello my darlings, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! Today, I’m spilling the tea on my fabulous adventure to the charming town of Ashington in Northumberland!
As you know, I’m all about spreading the joy of pink tutus far and wide. And what better way to do that than with a little road trip, a whole lotta sparkle, and a generous sprinkle of magic? This trip was all about stepping out of my comfort zone and exploring the beauty of a new place - something I always encourage you lovely lot to do, especially if you’re feeling a bit stuck in a rut. Life's too short not to chase adventure, you know what I mean?
Now, getting to Ashington was half the fun. Forget those boring, stressful car journeys - this girl travelled in style, of course! A glorious journey on a majestic train, all plush red velvet seats and steaming mugs of tea, is the perfect way to start any trip. Plus, the countryside views were just stunning, with rolling green hills and the most gorgeous sheep I ever did see. It really was an idyllic scene straight out of a Beatrix Potter book!
Now, for my Ashington adventure, I wanted to bring something really special for the lovely folks in this lovely little town, so naturally, I thought about ballet! The thought of performing in such a delightful, welcoming place, filled with enthusiastic locals and families just excited to see a show… it got my heart racing with anticipation!
Ashington was a true hidden gem - I’d heard so much about their love of ballet and community spirit, and honestly, my intuition didn't lead me wrong! The atmosphere was just incredible - all so welcoming and full of a true love for the arts. The locals were just as lovely and thrilled to see a Pink Tutu performance - all smiles, laughter and endless excitement. It warmed my heart right to my sparkly core!
The performance itself was pure magic. It wasn't in a theatre this time; we had a stage set up right in the town centre - surrounded by gorgeous Victorian architecture - I even spotted some beautiful, bright pink roses blooming outside. We were really under the starry sky!
After a quick backstage warm-up – you know me, always perfecting the twirls! - I was ready for the show! As soon as the music began, a wave of nervous excitement washed over me, a familiar feeling for any drag performer, I think! Then I heard the crowd cheer – what a joy, oh what a joy! – I felt myself transforming into Pink Tutu Sparkles; a big smile spread across my face as I hit the stage. It was truly electrifying!
My routine included all the favourites, naturally – graceful twirls, playful leaps, and all those captivating, twinkle-toed moves that never fail to mesmerise. I had my usual sparkly pink tutus and sequined shoes, but for this show, I wore this delightful, new headpiece that I found at a vintage boutique in Derbyshire – a giant, bejewelled, shimmering butterfly that looked so dazzling under the lights! I have to confess I couldn't help but twirl with glee and do a little ‘Ooh la la!’ every now and then.
The show went down a storm, let me tell you! People laughed, clapped, and some even stood up and cheered – all thanks to the wonderful, enchanting power of the pink tutu! It just reminds people that it’s okay to let loose, be yourself and add a dash of fabulousness to everything.
After the performance, everyone was eager to chat, have pictures with me and share their favourite tutu moments. I was also presented with a beautiful, hand-crafted pink tutu brooch by a local crafter – such a sweet gesture! You could say, I made a friend or two on the night!
As the day drew to a close, I felt a rush of overwhelming joy - the thrill of a successful performance, meeting such friendly folks and knowing that I'd left my little bit of sparkle behind. It’s that little dash of ‘Pink Tutu magic’ that I just adore sharing with the world, wherever my travels take me.
