Burnley: Tutu Time!

Pink Tutu Sparkles Here!

Well, darlings, guess who's back and ready to make Burnley pink? It's your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, in post number 5491! Today we're kicking off with a big dose of pink tutu magic in the heart of Lancashire. Buckle up, lovelies, it's gonna be a whirlwind of tutus, trains, and a whole lot of fabulousness.

I'm just absolutely buzzing about being back on the road, touring the land of my beloved tutus. It's been a wild ride getting here, folks. I journeyed from my Derbyshire abode by horse - yes, you heard that right - a gloriously majestic creature named Buttercup, with a mane as pink as a flamingo. Now, let's just say riding a horse in full drag attire is a tad more challenging than I anticipated! My crown did fall off once, but thankfully Buttercup, the clever creature that she is, knows how to follow a sparkling trail, and I'd sprinkled a little extra glitter just in case.

Burnley is a fantastic city, steeped in history. Just yesterday, I was wandering through the Towneley Hall, taking in the stunning art collection, which even included a portrait of a very dashing gentleman dressed in pink velvet with a flamboyant ruffle. A little nod to my favourite colour, if I do say so myself! I’m a firm believer that pink can make even the most stoic history come to life, so let's all raise our tiaras to Burnley's commitment to celebrating a touch of sparkle!

Of course, my travels are never complete without a bit of retail therapy, and Burnley's bustling town centre did not disappoint. I even found a stunning vintage broach for my collection! I do love finding pieces of history and using them as inspiration. That reminds me, there's an exhibition happening right now, at the Burnley Mechanics, called 'Beyond the Dress,' all about the evolution of fashion. Can't wait to go check it out - maybe even get some tutu-inspiration!

Speaking of inspiration, let me tell you about my day job. Yeah, by day I'm Alex, your average lab rat testing fabric for…well, fabric-y things. It’s pretty thrilling when you find the right material for, say, a fire-resistant blanket, but don’t get me wrong, it doesn't quite measure up to dazzling crowds in a feathered pink masterpiece!

The real spark ignites when I get to don my pink tutu and step on stage. Burnley has been kind enough to host me at the fantastic Burnley Town Hall, for a show that'll be bursting with glamour, glitter and, naturally, plenty of pink! There'll be lip-synching, high kicks, and enough sass to fill the entire ballroom. My set list? A mix of modern bangers with a sprinkle of some classics, but with a Pink Tutu Sparkles twist! You can't miss it.

Speaking of dancing, how can I resist a little spin in the world of ballet? The Grand Theatre, which is home to Burnley's vibrant community theatre scene, is on my list. Not just for a show, but for some class, you see, darlings! Ballet is so essential for every dancer, no matter their stage or how big the costume! I have to say that my time studying science taught me so much about the precision and elegance of a lab. Science is about finding patterns, experiments and observations – much like my favourite ballet, “The Sleeping Beauty.” But you know, when I first stepped onto a dance floor, it wasn't as a dancer but as a lab student with a heart filled with glitter and an urge to wear the most extraordinary costume possible!

Who would've thought my very first encounter with a tutu, you ask? Well, picture this: University fundraiser, charity auction. A fluffy pink tutu was on the block, and as soon as I saw it, a whole new world opened up! It was an absolute blast to try it on, and before you knew it, I was performing my very own tutu dance. Little did I know, that little experiment was about to turn my life completely upside down!

I know you love reading about my life outside the spotlight. Here are some quick snippets of tutu adventures you may find interesting! I think we should chat about travel. I’m not a massive fan of driving on long journeys. Instead I love taking the train. Trains are a source of great inspiration! Not just because I can dress up for the journey. They are fascinating structures full of little details to explore. This year, I want to make a train trip all about Pink Tutus! Can you imagine a fully decked out train where the ticket clerk wears a tutu?

Or, perhaps an entire tutu performance taking place in a carriage. I think the conductor would be the perfect person to play the part of the ballet mistress in a tale inspired by the train tracks, like ‘Giselle on The Rails’! Who knew that the everyday can be so full of tutu potential?

If you’re visiting Burnley this weekend, make sure you’ve got your pink tutus on! I might just catch you in the crowd for a selfie, so prepare to shine! This is your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, saying ciao bella, until next time. You can catch all of my daily musings and adventures at my website, www.pink-tutu.com - that’s right, every day is a pink tutu party! Now go forth and spread some tutu love. Remember, you’re all beautiful and sparkly. Now go out there and rock your own version of the world. Until next time, stay fabulous and remember, keep on twirling!
