I'm so excited to be back on the blog, and this time I'm sharing my latest adventure: Luton! This charming town in Bedfordshire really won me over with its quirky energy, its beautiful green spaces, and most importantly - you'll never believe this - a vintage shop packed full of the most amazing pink tutus you've ever seen! Talk about finding your tribe! 😄
I have to admit, Luton wasn't on my immediate "must-visit" list, but I always trust my gut, and this time it led me to a fantastic gig at a local theatre. You know how much I love spreading the pink tutu gospel, and there were so many amazing people there ready to embrace it! The atmosphere was electric, and I honestly felt like I was dancing on a cloud, surrounded by supportive and fabulous friends.
Now, getting to Luton was quite the journey. You see, I prefer travel that's as glamorous as my outfits! So, naturally, I opted for a horse-drawn carriage, because honestly, what's more elegant than arriving in style? The horse was adorable, his name was Percy, and we had the most delightful chat about the virtues of pink and glitter along the way. He's definitely a fan of a good pink tutu, even if he wouldn't admit it. 🤭
Once in Luton, I had to try some of the local delicacies, of course! Let's just say that the "Luton sausage roll" deserves a place on the world's culinary map! Imagine the most buttery, flaky pastry, filled with delicious savoury meat - I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. And the tea at the local café was a delightful affair, accompanied by some perfectly pink macarons - my personal weakness! 😋
And speaking of pink, I'm sure you all know that finding the perfect tutu for a show is a delicate affair! My trusty guidebook, "A Guide to Finding the Perfect Tutu" (published by yours truly!), helped me navigate the town's shopping scene. And what a scene it was! From boutique boutiques to bustling markets, Luton was a real treasure trove of fashion gems. Of course, I found the most amazing vintage tutu tucked away in a small antique shop, a vintage piece in a soft pink, just waiting for me to bring it to life on stage. ✨
Now, you might be wondering how I juggle my drag queen life with my scientific career. Let me tell you, it's all about finding the perfect balance! By day, I'm Alex, a lab technician working in a textiles lab, making sure that everyone's clothing is strong, safe, and well, well, fabulously colourful. By night, I transform into Pink Tutu Sparkles, ready to bring the joy and magic of drag to audiences everywhere. It's not always easy, but when I see the smiles on people's faces, when they get excited about pink tutus, when they dance and sing along to my music, I know that it's all worth it! 💕
