Grays, Essex: Tutu-ing My Way Through The Essex Sunshine!

Hello darlings! It’s Pink Tutu Sparkles here, your favourite (and quite possibly only!) drag queen who can simultaneously love a sparkly pink tutu and be completely obsessed with science! 👋

This is post number 5770, and honestly? You guys know I love posting on www.pink-tutu.com, and this one is going to be a right corker. You won't believe the fabulous adventure I’ve just had. It all started with a whiff of seaside air and the promise of some seriously good fish and chips. You know what I’m saying?

My darling, I'm here in Grays, Essex. And I have to say, this quaint little town, famous for it’s fishing port, and well-known for its history dating back to Roman times, definitely deserves a shout-out! Grays was on my travel itinerary and I thought, why not?

You see, Essex holds a special place in my heart because I actually spent my teenage summers with my godmother in Canvey Island! I was so young that Canvey was just a land of beaches, amusement arcades and buckets and spades. As a young queen I’m very drawn to the nostalgia factor of this place! This town truly brought back all sorts of memories. Of course, as a proper glamorous queen, I don’t get my holiday memories from seaside arcades, instead I'm about the amazing views and historical walks! But for this queen, nostalgia brings memories of my youth, so Canvey will always hold a special place in my heart!

The sun was shining so bright, I’m pretty sure I had my pink sunglasses on and, let's be honest, you can never go wrong with a little pink. Especially when you're dressed to the nines in your favourite fluffy tutu! I swear, that tutu, with the matching pink sequined leotard, just brought out all my Essex sass! Honestly, there wasn’t a soul on the street who wasn’t smiling when they saw me strut my stuff down Grays’ charming high street!

Even the cute little shops with their charming flower boxes seemed to be saying, “Hello Pink Tutu, we love you!” I am quite the crowd pleaser, after all. I was really in my element! The people in Grays, Essex really did embrace me, and of course, everyone who caught my eye had a big smile and a sparkle in their eye as I skipped past, and let’s face it - what is the world without a little sparkle?!

I even caught myself twirling on the pavement a bit. Okay, a lot. Honestly, how could I resist, with a tutu so grand and a smile so wide? It was just such a fun way to experience this little town. I am definitely someone who loves to feel the joy in all I do, and that feeling of pure joy is exactly how I would describe this visit to Grays!

This fabulous day in Essex wasn’t just about the fun - I found time to have some truly remarkable cultural experiences too!

Firstly, let me tell you all about the magnificent Tudor House museum I visited. This place is a piece of history, darling! They have this gorgeous Tudor house they preserved perfectly. It felt like stepping back in time and walking around their beautifully curated rooms with exhibits from the Tudors and Stuart eras really gave me a new perspective. Honestly, it got me thinking, where were they wearing tutus? Imagine having a queen, right? Even in the Tudor times I’m pretty sure a big tulle statement would have really made things interesting!

I even made it to the local theatre - which wasn't too difficult as the little theatre is smack-bang in the centre of town, right off the High Street! This venue really has such charm and an impressive stage - a great size for ballet, drama, or even music performances, and just imagine it, I’m hoping to have a tutu performance there one day.

But honestly? What could be more fun than getting dressed up as a queen to go and see the most amazing ballerina dance in real life?! It is my greatest joy. Now, ballet doesn’t have to be boring, even if you love classical and the elegance of 'Swan Lake' or the passion of 'Don Quixote' it can also be vibrant and exhilarating! It was all so moving, so breathtaking! I actually shed a happy little tear as the lead ballerina finished a powerful and emotive solo. It was beautiful.

After the show, it was just impossible to say no to a glass of champagne - to celebrate of course! But also to try to recapture the elegant feelings I had. So as I was taking my first sip I thought to myself "This is living my best life!"

As the sun dipped towards the horizon, the beauty of the place started to appear. Grays really has something special. From its historical buildings to its charming little streets with gorgeous boutique stores (I couldn’t help but pick up a few souvenirs - just a few, honestly), this was one of my best-ever drag journeys!

As for Grays, Essex, I definitely fell head over heels with the town! Let's just say that I have a very, very good feeling about this little gem of Essex, and this fabulous trip just confirmed that there is magic everywhere. The world has some fabulous hidden places and I think it’s my job to show you all the ones I love the most. I can’t wait for all the fun and sparkle I know I will have on my future journeys. Stay tuned, you know that there is no way I could stay away from this magical world for too long.

In fact, I’ve already got a couple more trip plans up my sleeve for you lovelies to enjoy. I can’t tell you where, because my little tutu is gonna get us in so much trouble! All I’m saying is that there's going to be a tutu for everyone, and we're going to have so much fun together on my adventures.

In the meantime, be sure to catch me on social media, because I'm always there sharing more travel pics, sassy drag selfies, and behind-the-scenes moments from the fabulous Pink Tutu Sparkles life.

Remember, a world without tutus, especially pink tutus, is a dull world, darlings. Stay sparkly, and stay tuned!

Until next time,

P.S - Just a heads up - I’ll be holding a competition very soon to pick a lucky winner for a "tutu day out" with me for a weekend full of ballet, food, shopping and… you guessed it - tutus, tutus, tutus! Stay tuned on the blog and social media for more.
