Hello darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, your favourite tutu-wearing, pink-loving, glitter-obsessed drag queen, bringing you another installment of my fabulous travels. Today's escapade finds me in the lovely Sutton in Ashfield. Let me tell you, this place has got it all: charming shops, delightful pubs, and the most welcoming folk I've met on my travels so far. I always say, it's about those human connections, don't you agree? 💖
You might be thinking, "Pink Tutu Sparkles, what took you to Sutton in Ashfield? Isn't that a bit… shhh, dare I say, off the beaten track?" Well, let me tell you, my lovelies, the true essence of sparkle comes from exploring those hidden gems. And this hidden gem certainly lived up to its potential.
I'll start with the journey itself, because it's all part of the experience! I opted for a luxurious train ride from my hometown of Derbyshire, my pink tutu billowing in the breeze, catching the eye of fellow passengers with its flamboyant beauty. Honestly, it's the most fabulous way to travel – you get a glimpse of the passing scenery, and people are usually so much nicer when you're sporting a dazzling pink tutu! 😜
My journey wasn't just about the scenery though. As I boarded the train, a young girl, probably about eight years old, gave me the biggest smile and a thumbs up. I knew she was secretly wanting to wear a pink tutu just like mine, but was probably too shy to ask. "Don't worry, darling," I thought, "One day you'll be twirling in pink too!" And, that's the magic of Pink Tutu Sparkles, inspiring confidence and a little bit of sparkle in everyone's heart. ✨
And of course, the highlight of my Sutton in Ashfield escapade had to be my show! I performed at the local arts centre, a charming old building that had just the right amount of history and grandeur. The audience was absolutely fantastic, all so ready to enjoy some sparkly entertainment! And my, they loved my act! They laughed, they cheered, and some of them even got up to dance along! I swear, my glitter flew right off the stage, so much joy in the air!
Speaking of joy, you know I had to find a spot for a delightful cuppa and a slice of Victoria sponge after the show. There was a cosy café, filled with the smell of fresh coffee and baking treats. And guess what? The cake was so delicious, I think I might've had a second slice (don't tell the doctor, darling).
But the highlight of my day came unexpectedly. A gentleman approached me after my performance. He'd been watching from the front row, eyes fixed on every twirl of my pink tutu. He came to thank me for bringing joy and sparkle to his life. "My granddaughter has always wanted to wear a pink tutu," he said, "She's got her heart set on a ballet class, but she’s a little shy. I hope you can help me encourage her."
My heart melted, darling! Of course, I offered him a copy of my latest blog post and my Instagram handle. "Tell your granddaughter that it's okay to dream big," I told him, "and to let the sparkle flow."
You see, my darlings, that's the real magic of Pink Tutu Sparkles: inspiring others to be their true, authentic selves, however sparkly or colourful that might be. Whether it's on stage, at a coffee shop, or even on a train, it's all about finding the sparkle within yourself.
But here's the secret: I didn't just discover this hidden sparkle within myself by accident. It was a long, fascinating journey of self-discovery and empowerment, that started, as all great journeys do, with a single step. And my single step was actually two: a single pink tutu and a single step into the ballet club at my university.
Back then, I was just Alex, a regular Derbyshire lad with a passion for science and, funnily enough, a real passion for pink tutus! I knew this journey would lead me somewhere amazing. I mean, what kind of science major doesn’t fall in love with pink tutus and sparkles?! I even have my own special scientific equipment. Now I spend my days testing fabrics to ensure that everything, and I mean everything, is suitable for wearing Pink Tutu Sparkles' special custom-made tutus! But it was after I donned the pink tutu for the university ballet club’s fundraising event that everything changed. I can’t believe that was only 4 years ago. It felt like a magical event where I was surrounded by the colours of rainbows, while wearing a tutu that reminded me of dancing cotton candy. I knew then and there that my purpose was to help other people embrace their own sparkle, to show them that life is a stage, and that we’re all, in a way, part of a bigger performance.
By day, I was Alex, the scientist, spending my time at my workbench analyzing fabrics, but at night, I’d transform into Pink Tutu Sparkles, ready to spread joy and colour through dance, fashion and a whole lot of glitter! That's why I travel from place to place, from fair to theatre, and why I embrace any opportunity to spread my message of sparkle and joy. Every single place I visit is a stepping stone, another part of the grand, ever-evolving, and most certainly sparkly performance of my life.
And what is that message, you ask? Why, it's simply to get everyone to wear a pink tutu! Because, darling, there is nothing more powerful than seeing a person twirling with absolute confidence in their heart, their soul, and a glorious, perfectly pink tutu. And if there is any greater inspiration than that, then you haven't looked for it.
