Burnley Bound: Pink Tutu Sparkles Goes North! (Post #6265)

Hello my darling darlings! It’s Pink Tutu Sparkles here, bringing you all the latest sparkles from my latest adventure! Today I’m sharing my fabulous trip to Burnley, a town steeped in history and even more steeped in…well, not quite pink tutus, but let’s get to that later! 😉

As you all know, I’m a firm believer that the best way to explore is by train, and this trip was no different. The carriage ride was a perfect opportunity to catch up on some reading – you wouldn’t believe the amount of interesting fashion magazines I manage to collect on my travels! (Tip: the library at Euston Station has a great selection.)

My arrival in Burnley was greeted with a burst of excitement - not just from me, mind you, but from the locals! Apparently, I was the first drag queen in pink tutu to grace their humble streets. And who wouldn't be excited about a vision in pink fluff? 😄

But before I took over the town in a kaleidoscope of ruffles and sequins, I had a mission – a mission to bring the pink tutu gospel to the heart of Burnley! My first stop? The Burnley Mechanics.

Now, let me tell you, the Burnley Mechanics is a beauty! They have this fantastic grand hall with these elegant balconies that really remind me of my favourite London theatre venues. I even managed to sneak in a quick ballet session - turns out the Mechanics offers dance classes for everyone! (And yes, they had tutus! Well, they were in various shades of pastel pink, which, of course, I can happily count as "almost pink.")

The afternoon was dedicated to a spot of shopping, and let’s just say the Burnley boutiques were not disappointed! You won’t believe the bargains I snagged! A delightful vintage teacup set, a quirky antique brooch for my upcoming performance… and, of course, an entirely new stash of pink tulle for my own creative designs! 😉

But no journey of Pink Tutu Sparkles would be complete without a spectacular show. Tonight, I performed at the Rose and Crown Pub in the heart of Burnley, which was a right hoot! They welcomed me with open arms, and let's just say the pub goers were absolutely captivated! My favourite moment? It has to be when a whole group of ladies started spontaneously doing the can-can in their dresses and tutus. You see, that’s the magic of a Pink Tutu Sparkles show: it brings out the sparkle in everyone!✨

Before leaving Burnley, I took a wander through the beautiful Victorian architecture of the town centre. This is where I encountered a local who seemed rather bemused to find a pink tutu-wearing queen in his quiet, industrial town. "Fancy seeing you here," he said with a smile.

"I fancy seeing Burnley," I replied, striking a theatrical pose! I think we were both enchanted with this little bit of unplanned performance!

And now, as I head back to Derbyshire by train (let’s face it, there are no ponies available in this neck of the woods), I'm reflecting on how the most unassuming of places can leave the biggest impression. You never know what you'll discover, who you'll inspire, or where the pink tutu will lead you next. So, to all my dearest darlings, remember: a bit of pink fluff can go a long way!

Stay sparkly, my loves! ✨

Post #6265 Appendix: (What was Alex like pre-Tutu? & What did she get up to in Burnley?)

Hey darlings, I think some of you are itching to hear a little more about my life before the tutus, aren’t you? Well, prepare for a blast from the past. This is what your favourite drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, got up to before glitter and ruffles.

Truth be told, my life before Pink Tutu Sparkles was... quite boring. I mean, imagine: a small-town science grad student who only had two friends. Oh, and one of those friends was a rabbit who could never appreciate the allure of a good drag show. 😅 I spent most of my days in the lab, testing textiles for my scientific research project, which is when the fateful tutu incident occurred...

The Moment It All Changed:

One Friday evening, I stumbled into the local University Ballet Club to catch a show. I loved the performance, the music, the sheer grace of it all. Afterwards, there was a fundraising stand where students were trying to raise funds for costumes and dance props. I spotted a beautifully delicate pink tutu nestled between old leotards and ballet shoes. A voice, no, a vision whispered in my heart – I had to try it on! And so I did.

That was it. One sparkly, swirly tutu, and the pink revolution was in motion. My journey as a drag queen started the night I discovered I could fit into a size six tutu, believe it or not!

Back to Burnley:

Here's a little sneak peek into what we did during our adventure in Burnley...

  1. Tea time at The Corner House: A truly beautiful spot for afternoon tea in a cosy, traditional atmosphere. If you ever find yourself in Burnley, this is an absolute must-try. It was here where I finally sat down for a peaceful chat with my lovely companion - that old teapot seemed to have a lot to say.
  2. Museum Hop!: Burnley’s got a great museum showcasing its industrial past – perfect for the vintage fashion enthusiast in me! It was a bit like stepping back in time and discovering all those charming vintage designs for new costumes, and even those incredible ball gowns that inspire me!
  3. The Nightlife Scene: I’m usually a bit shy about letting my hair down in front of a crowd, but the locals made me feel at home in Burnley! They have so many different venues with really cool vibes, perfect for everyone, whether you're a music lover, a performer, or just want to chat over a glass of wine.

The moral of the story, darlings, is that no matter where you go, there’s always a sparkle to be discovered. If you ever visit Burnley, you know where to find me – my tutus are ready for a spin, a twirl, and an absolute blast of a time!

Until next time, keep shining, my lovely lovelies! 💋
