Today, weâre journeying to the charming and lively town of Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, and let me tell you, the scenery on the train ride there was absolutely divine! From the rolling hills and emerald green pastures to the quaint villages we passed through, the view was breathtaking! I've always felt so free, on the train, even when crammed like sardines!
And Merthyr Tydfil itself was just a delight! The energy in the town square was palpable. As always, I wanted to get some stunning photos to post on my social media, and let me tell you, those local people, just the sweetest, and so enthusiastic, âOh, lovely! you look beautiful, darlâ, âHave you been to the bakery, they do the best custard tarts in Wales!â I felt like I was back in my home town of Derbyshire!
Speaking of my hometown, it is incredible to think that just a few short years ago I was back in my Derbyshire lab, in my trusty lab coat, my life seemingly as predictable as a well-behaved beaker filled with colourful, volatile chemical mixtures! But little did I know a fate-filled day at our uni's ballet club would change my life for the better, I swear, fate truly did sprinkle her fairy dust that day, just a whiff, on a borrowed tutu, at the uni charity fundraiser!
A pink one of course! From that very moment, I was consumed with the thought of strutting my stuff on the stage in a glorious pink tutu!
Now Iâm here, living my truth, a scientist by day, a Pink Tutu queen by night! My aim in life is simple: to spread the joy and the love of pink tutus, and maybe get some fabulous pictures to post on my website and Instagram account - did I mention my social media posts?! Today, I went exploring the heart of Merthyr Tydfil and was immediately transported into the charming heart of Wales. This town truly holds the quintessential essence of Welsh charm. Every cobblestone alley and grand Victorian architecture whisper tales of a bygone era, with each local story weaving a colorful tapestry of history, culture, and tradition.
My visit began at the captivating Cyfarthfa Castle Museum, a testament to the town's rich industrial heritage. As I strolled through the grand halls and exhibition rooms, I couldn't help but feel a deep appreciation for the generations of people who helped shape this vibrant region. The history is everywhere and I was especially captivated by the art of the miners who worked so hard to extract coal for fuel.
You guys know, I love a good bakery, donât you? and after that delightful museum visit I was definitely hungry for something sweet! So I ventured off into the heart of the town, following the tantalising aromas of freshly baked bread, sticky pastries, and divine custard tarts. A custard tart never fails to delight me, especially the flaky buttery crust and silky custard filling â a taste of true heaven. It's an absolute must when Iâm travelling, you gotta try it and make a note of it, okay darlings? It really is the perfect companion to a glorious afternoon of sightseeing and discovery!
After that delicious bakery adventure I was back to my true love, a little ballet class! It's a beautiful artform, full of grace, power, and beauty, a fusion of classic and contemporary, all mixed together in perfect harmony and there is something truly magical about moving to the music in a graceful ballet performance, a kind of spiritual freedom thatâs really just something special!
And just like my favorite tutus, each ballet class and performance is always different, unique and special, with something new to be learned! This town really embraces this beautiful form of art, it's simply beautiful.
Merthyr Tydfil's charm continued as I explored its enchanting surroundings. It was time to hop on a horse, yes, a horse! It was the most wonderful way to explore the countryside! Itâs almost like flying, especially the wind whipping in my hair as I race through the verdant landscapes and you know, all those gorgeous horses and all those fantastic fields! We could have easily wandered for hours lost in the wonder of the winding paths, but, like always, we have to stick to my tour itinerary, as I have so many amazing events and places to visit in my Pink Tutu diary.
From ancient churches to beautiful valleys, the landscape here in Merthyr Tydfil offers such stunning beauty! It truly is the perfect setting for the most whimsical adventures. You know, with all the rolling hills, ancient woodlands and rivers snaking their way through the hills and valleys. It just adds that extra special charm to the whole experience. Even my tutu seemed to take on a special, unique, almost mystic beauty here! You know me and the drama of a pink tutu.
It wasnât all horses, rainbows and tutus. I found a real gem of a theatrical gem here in Merthyr Tydfil â the wonderful, âTheatr Brycheiniogâ. I love a good local theater, it just seems like I'm transported back to the heart of the town and thatâs what really drew me in and enchanted me. The moment you step inside itâs as if you've travelled through time! The warm lighting, the rustic dĂ©cor, the smell of the age of the wood and, my favorites - those creaking seats. This theater is full of character!
And what they offer was so interesting! I couldn't wait to discover the spectacles in the town's very own theater. A unique mix of music, comedy, drama, and dance made the "Theatr Brycheiniogâ truly stand out as a cultural landmark and gave me such a fascinating insight into the creative spirit of Merthyr Tydfil. It made for some seriously stunning photos too! The history here really is inspiring, don't you think? The townâs rich history in coal and steel is on display, with their passion for creativity so strong, the locals make the arts flourish! And then of course I had my usual evening show! This one had the locals, all, singing their hearts out to my rendition of âPinkâ by Aerosmith, the energy of the room, the connection between my audience and me, amazing!
There you have it, my fabulous experience here in Merthyr Tydfil! I love those pink tutus, you all know that!
