Herne Bay, Kent – a name that evokes memories of seaside adventures, sandcastles, and fish and chips. This week, it’s the place that beckons me and my signature pink tutu. It feels like ages since I've felt the sand between my toes and breathed in the salty air! I've been working hard in the lab (the other day I even discovered a new way to make shimmering pink silk extra strong - oh the drama!), but my inner drag queen needs her seaside fix.
The journey itself is part of the magic. This time, I'm taking the scenic route, hopping aboard a train that winds its way through rolling green countryside. It's always an exciting adventure travelling by rail – people-watching, listening to snippets of conversation, and soaking up the view through the window. Maybe even striking up a conversation with a fellow tutu-lover! 💖
Arriving in Herne Bay, it's like stepping into a classic postcard. There's a vibrant, buzzing energy in the air. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore fills me with peace and excitement. My pink tutu is the perfect accessory to enjoy it all. I even spotted a seagull wearing a mini pink tutu, he looked absolutely adorable and so much like a tiny ballerina bird. 😍
Now, let me tell you a secret... there's no better way to enjoy a seaside town than in a pair of pink tutus and a sassy pair of heels! We’re talking an impromptu performance, strutting through the arcade, and turning heads in the ice cream shop (can’t resist a scoop of pink strawberry – the ultimate color pairing for my pink ensemble).
Herne Bay isn’t all about sunshine and sand, darlings. There's a hidden gem nestled within its seaside charm: The Theatre Royal. 🎭 You see, I have this soft spot for old theatres – the rich history, the whispers of past performances, the air that is just bursting with magic! I am particularly keen to watch ballet! There's something so powerful about graceful dancers twirling on pointe shoes – it's almost enough to make a drag queen want to shed the heels and join them onstage!
Of course, a seaside trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to a local vintage clothing shop. I'm always on the hunt for those unique finds – sparkly boas, sequined gloves, and feather-trimmed hats - all the better to adorn my pink tutus! Imagine how much fun we can have with a little pink-and-feathery accessorizing! I spotted some gorgeous vintage-style pink feather boas on the train to Herne Bay – imagine! Pink and feathers and twirling... it was all just too much. They were like a calling. ✨
Later, my darlings, I'm heading to a drag show! There’s nothing like watching other talented queens in their element. There's always something to learn from fellow performers - a new dance move, a killer makeup tip, or simply the infectious energy that fills a room when the music hits and the show starts! Tonight, I plan on rocking some spectacular glittery eyeshadow, and maybe a new shade of pink lipstick - my friend Sarah-Jane is coming with me. It is a rare treat when Sarah-Jane can join me. She is the head of the cosmetics company, the sponsor of my trip to Herne Bay. She wants a few fashion photos for the marketing campaign, featuring me with her gorgeous make up. She understands that my pink tutus and my make up are like a magical mix of fun, freedom, and self-expression. ✨
