Oh darlings, get ready for a whirlwind of frills, sparkles and fabulousness, because your favourite tutu-loving queen is off on an adventure! This week I'm jetting off to Sale, a little slice of heaven known for its fantastic shops and, of course, its incredible fashion scene. This is my 6,745th blog post for you lovely lot, and as always, I'm bubbling with excitement to share every sequin-studded detail of my journey!
You see, Sale holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I first truly felt the magic of a shopping spree. Picture a young Alex, fresh out of university and with a head full of scientific dreams. (Yeah, I know, totally different image, right? 😂). Well, that Alex decided to dabble in the world of drag for a university charity event. A tutu? You bet! And then, bam! The magic happened. Pink tutus became my obsession. Not just the dance variety, oh no. Anything fluffy and pink? I was hooked. I couldn't resist the power of those frills, and the rest, as they say, is history.
But back to Sale! I love this town because it has a little bit of everything - vintage boutiques, independent shops overflowing with sparkle and treasures, and some seriously good coffee shops for when you need a sugar-fuelled break. Of course, it wouldn't be a trip without a spot of retail therapy. What’s a queen without a shopping fix, right?
Day One: Shopping 'til I Drop
After arriving by train - nothing beats that glorious carriage ride across the English countryside - I was ready to attack those shopping streets with my trusty pink tulle cape trailing behind me! My first stop? The Antique Emporium - a charming, old-world shop bursting at the seams with treasures. I found the most stunning, hand-painted, pink silk fan – the perfect accessory for a Parisian-themed show I'm planning! Then, it was onto Rainbow Chic, where I picked up the most dazzlingly beaded, pink head-piece with delicate feathers – imagine the photos I'm going to get with this!
Evening Entertainment: A Night at the Theatre
After a leisurely afternoon of sipping tea and indulging in decadent pastries, I was feeling ready to witness the local talent! Tonight’s entertainment was The Dance Theatre’s "Cinderella," a beautifully choreographed, and thoroughly delightful interpretation of the classic fairytale. Now, there's nothing I love more than a good ballet performance! It's just so elegant, captivating and full of intricate movements. The story resonated deeply with me. The dancers were so talented, and of course, their costumes were gorgeous.
Day Two: A Feast for the Senses
Sale is bursting with hidden gems, but the thing I love most about the town is its local artisans and craftspeople. Day two started at The Gingerbread Shoppe - a wonderland of delicious delights. My sweet tooth was delighted with their delectable gingerbread creations, with more pink frosting than you could possibly imagine! My tip? Grab a cup of tea and enjoy those freshly baked goods! After my sugar rush, it was off to Art Deco Designs – an independent shop showcasing some of the finest vintage ceramics, jewellery, and furniture, with, you guessed it, plenty of pink! The craftsmanship and design was truly mesmerising!
Day Three: Farewell to Sale
My journey in Sale was a joyous celebration of everything fabulous, a testament to the vibrant charm of this hidden gem of a town. I couldn’t leave without popping into the Farmers' Market, a kaleidoscope of fresh, locally grown produce – it’s the perfect way to nourish your body as well as your soul! There’s nothing better than that fresh, local air, and of course, I found the prettiest bunch of pink lilies, a small souvenir for my pink-themed apartment!
Sale, you’ve left your mark on my heart! I’m already dreaming of my next visit, where I can lose myself in your shops, dance to the rhythm of your vibrant street performances and share pink tulle-tastic adventures with all of you.
