Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving, tutu-twirling queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here with a brand new blog post from the fabulous city of Crosby, on the sunny shores of the Mersey. This is blog post number 6840 - can you believe it? We're flying through the sparkly sequins of time here on www.pink-tutu.com!
This week I'm trading the lab for the stage, or at least the dusty boxes in the attic of the theatre in Crosby. I've always had a passion for all things vintage, and that's how I discovered the gorgeous venue I'm performing at tonight - it's got enough character to make even the most jaded glitterati jealous. And did I mention there's a magnificent costume department? It's like a tutu-lovers dream come true!
Of course, I can't travel to the other side of the country without an absolutely divine pink ensemble. My new feathered boa is to die for, and the iridescent pink sequined leotard - well, let's just say I'm living my best glittery life! I'm not even sure the theatre managers are ready for the sparkle hurricane I'm about to unleash!
Getting here was half the fun. My travel bug has been acting up again, so I decided to leave the car at home and hop on a train. You see, I think trains are so romantic - especially the old fashioned carriages with their big comfy seats and the window views of the beautiful countryside. Imagine, all that space to stretch out in a fluffy pink tutu! Of course, you can never underestimate the excitement of a good train journey. You just never know who you'll meet! This time, I had the pleasure of chatting with a sweet elderly lady who adored my pink feathers. Apparently, she used to dance ballet as a young woman, and even managed to coax me into a spontaneous impromptu tap session in the carriage. Talk about adding to my performance repertoire!
We even passed through some stunning little villages on the way. Honestly, you wouldn't believe how picturesque some of these villages are, nestled amongst fields and winding rivers. I actually got off at one stop and found this incredible old stone barn with a cafe in the middle of the village green! I grabbed myself a cup of tea and a delicious slice of Victoria sponge cake while admiring the pastel houses and flower boxes that lined the village streets. The beauty and charm were a much-needed respite after the hectic lab day, especially since, well, my job requires me to spend a lot of time with lots and lots of different fabrics. Let's just say a little bit of rural calm is definitely what the doctor ordered!
Now, speaking of the lab, did I mention I'm a scientist by day and a dazzling drag artist by night? Don't be fooled by my sparkly exterior – there's a very serious brain hiding underneath all this fabulousness! I actually have a science degree. And it all started with the university ballet club. They were hosting a charity event, and they wanted me to try on a pink tutu to promote it. Now, I've never been one to shy away from a challenge, and let me tell you, those tutus really are irresistible!
Honestly, the first time I felt that twirling magic, I knew that I had to wear them forever. It's more than just clothes - it's a way of life! A statement! A call to celebrate everything bright, bubbly and a bit whimsical! It's a movement, darling, and my aim in life is to get the whole world twirling in a pink tutu!
