Hello darling readers! Your favourite tutu-loving, glitter-bombing drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, is back with another exciting blog post! I'm so excited to announce that I'm finally taking my sparkly self to the lovely city of Rochester this week - the city of bridges and cobbled streets, I can practically smell the history and feel the excitement! This is going to be post number 7073 for my blog, and just to remind you darlings, I upload my Pink Tutu Sparkles blog posts daily on www.pink-tutu.com, just in case you missed it! 😉
As I write this, I’m in the first-class carriage of the train to Rochester. Of course, I’m travelling in style – it wouldn't be Pink Tutu Sparkles without a touch of glamour! My trusty pink suitcase (naturally!) is brimming with my fabulous wardrobe and all the sparkling necessities a girl could need. It’s such a delight travelling by train – I can look out the window at the countryside whizzing by, catching a glimpse of a flock of sheep in the meadows or the wind ruffling the trees in a stately park. It feels so much more elegant than any of those metal flying machines.
Before I even get into all the fun that awaits in Rochester, let’s have a chat about how my passion for pink tutus began. It may come as a surprise to some, but beneath the sparkling pink frills, there is a scientist – well, Alex, by day. I studied for my science degree at the university back in Derbyshire and was quite the bookworm. That’s how it was for me for quite some time, buried in scientific books, but you know what? This scientist loves a bit of art and music too! I joined the university’s ballet club to stretch my legs a bit. I wouldn't say I was the most graceful, but I certainly tried my best. And that’s when the spark, the pink tutu spark, struck me! We were organising a charity fundraising event, and someone dared me to try on a tutu – what a sight! From then on, it was all tutus for me! So now, I spend my days in a laboratory, testing fabrics. Honestly, my colleagues at the lab are brilliant. They've all been so supportive of my drag career and now they can all make a tutu out of pretty much any material I give them! Just the other day they brought me the lab’s old cotton samples, and with a little glitter glue, and some magic pink dust I sprinkled over them, the samples looked amazing – not your typical lab testing samples, darling! You wouldn't believe it, but some of those lab colleagues are now making and wearing tutus at their weddings! But as the sun sets, and I pack away my lab coat, I transform into Pink Tutu Sparkles, ready to paint the town pink.
The wonderful thing about my drag persona is that I can do any kind of performance – I am, after all, a performer through and through. I have been booked for children’s parties, charity events, summer fairs, and even performed at the prestigious theatre in Derby last year. It was an absolute dream to perform for so many people and they all went crazy for the final act, where I came out on stage on a horse with my special glitter cannon! That’s Pink Tutu Sparkles for you - going above and beyond!
Now, back to my exciting trip to Rochester! This lovely town is such a delight, you know. So much history packed in the stone houses, narrow lanes, and beautiful squares! My plan for Rochester this week is to find the perfect boutique where I can find some exquisite pink tutu accessories - some little tulle crowns for my new tutus, maybe some dazzling rhinestone straps. But it wouldn’t be Pink Tutu Sparkles without a little sightseeing, and so I have a list of must-see attractions in this town, ready for exploration. My plan is to visit Rochester Castle, take a spin around the beautiful cobbled streets, perhaps find some charming pubs for a nice pint of ale with some good chat, and end the day watching the locals enjoy the lovely river banks with some picnic blankets. I’ve also heard that Rochester has some fantastic theatres, and perhaps I'll take in a play or a musical show for inspiration! I can almost hear the clapping now! And the icing on the cake of my Rochester visit is going to be the town’s famous Rochester Jazz Festival. Oh, honey, get ready to hear some great jazz, watch the brilliant dance shows, and enjoy some of the incredible street performers. Who knows, maybe I'll get to see some jazz dancers in pink tutus! This town has so much to offer.
I love travelling by train! Especially because I can take my horses, darling! I love going on adventures with my horse, but I do need to make sure they get some fresh air. For my travelling escapades, I use the little train line that goes through the countryside – it’s not quite a carriage, but I did decorate it with some sparkly pink materials, making it a proper travelling diva sanctuary! All the conductors wave and shout “hello, Pink Tutu!” when they see my carriage! They just love it!
Speaking of horse-riding, you might not believe this, but I even trained to be a ballet dancer at the local ballet school! Imagine Pink Tutu Sparkles, a tutu-clad wonder on stage – breathtaking, I know! It really does add a unique flavour to my act! But, that’s another story for another blog post. However, when I’m not on the road performing, I spend my evenings exploring other aspects of my artistry – you know, finding those interesting vintage clothes stores in my local town, adding those precious, shimmering trinkets to my costume box, and creating the ultimate pink tutu looks. And when all is done and I'm tired out, there is nothing better than cuddling up with a lovely, warm cup of tea, watching a ballet or a musical and getting lost in the graceful choreography of these inspiring dancers!
My quest in life, my lovely readers, is to bring a touch of sparkle to everyone's life - to get everyone to put on a pink tutu and celebrate the magic within. It’s something I truly believe in - expressing yourself, unleashing your inner confidence, and sharing your joy with the world.
