Kirkby Calling: A Tutu-tastic Time in the North! 💖🩰

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-wearing drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back with you for blog post number 7376! Today, we’re venturing into the glorious north, and I’m already feeling a flutter of excitement – that must be the twirling in my heart, as the pinkest-of-pink tulle catches the light!

Kirkby was beckoning me with its vibrant energy. From the moment the train pulled into the station, the air buzzed with excitement, much like the tutu that's currently catching the wind on my bum (more on this fab garment later!) This trip was all about soaking up the local culture, and let me tell you, Kirkby did not disappoint.

As you know, darling, I live for travel – especially by train. It's the perfect opportunity for my signature fabulousness to really shine through. This time, my chosen ensemble was an absolute showstopper: a cascading cloud of fuchsia tulle, perfectly matched to a vibrant cherry-red lipstick that screamed ‘stop, look and sparkle!’ My trusty luggage was piled high with enough outfits for a fortnight, because as any true fashionista knows, it's all about mixing things up – especially when you’re a drag queen who loves to reinvent themselves!

After checking into the most charming little guesthouse, all cosy and welcoming (imagine, a frilled lampshade – oh the dream!), I took a wander into the heart of Kirkby. My first stop was the local market – imagine the delights: artisan breads, handmade crafts, and rows of vibrantly coloured fresh produce – oh, and don’t get me started on the smell of freshly baked pies! I snagged myself the most divine rainbow cupcakes (with edible sprinkles!) which fuelled my energy for a morning of exploring.

And of course, no trip to Kirkby would be complete without a visit to its world-famous, world-class... Wait for it... BALLET SCHOOL! Yes, my darling, it’s true! Tucked away in the heart of the town was the most incredible, exquisite ballet studio, with beautiful wooden floors, soaring ceilings, and a magical atmosphere. I had to steal myself away from my daydreaming for a moment to buy myself the most glorious pink tutu from the shop – absolutely, utterly gorgeous.

That evening, I was absolutely thrilled to take a seat at the Kirkby Theatre for a performance by their resident ballet company. The dancers were graceful and mesmerising; they truly captivated my imagination with their talent and artistry. Honestly, I was glued to my seat throughout, absolutely enthralled. I thought my tutu would literally fly off my hips from the sheer force of the twirling within me. I just couldn't resist; as soon as the last curtain call finished, I sashayed my way backstage – to meet the incredible company and get a couple of tips for my own ballet moves (you know I’ve been secretly practicing – I’m always improving!).

Of course, being in Kirkby meant that I had to partake in the local culinary delights! There's a tradition of having the best Sunday roast dinner, and boy oh boy did I live up to expectations. I had a plate piled high with roast beef, potatoes, all the veggies and, best of all, lashings of Yorkshire pudding (which, funnily enough, did NOT come with a pink tutu – although, that's definitely something for next year’s Christmas roast!). The highlight of this evening had to be the gravy, the thickest, richest gravy I have EVER had – absolutely heavenly! I nearly danced a little jig!

The following day, I embarked on a mission: to introduce Kirkby to the magical, whimsical world of Pink Tutu Sparkles. As you know, my life mission is to get everyone in the world to wear a pink tutu (if only I had started when I was studying fabric sciences in the lab, perhaps everyone would have happily embraced my vision!). I decided to host a “Tutu Time” at the local town hall.

Imagine, my darling, the sheer fabulousness: The town hall, all decked out in swathes of the most gorgeous tulle – from the windows, the stage, even the mayor’s table (a bit cheeky, I know)! I had a playlist filled with tunes sure to make you prance, all ready for the arrival of the first guest. I was excited! And did it all go to plan?

My heart raced when the doors swung open! People from every corner of Kirkby (and, honestly, even a few brave souls from neighbouring towns – yay!), flocked through, beaming at the pink extravaganza unfolding before them.

From children in brightly coloured dresses (I was totally mesmerised – a baby pink, fluffy tutu! – too cute!), to grown-up folks (don’t be shy – I dare you to step out of your comfort zone – a pink tutu looks good on everyone) The day became a kaleidoscope of pink. Everyone was dancing, twirling, giggling and, to my utter delight, getting into the spirit of ‘sparkle.’

This event solidified Kirkby’s place in my heart – not just for the sheer loveliness, but for the overwhelming joy. People, from all walks of life, danced together – young and old, men and women (even a couple of local blokes dared to wear their finest, pink tutus – we did it, folks!). It was such a wonderfully joyous affair; I was overcome with joy, watching their faces light up. And, as my heart swelled with happiness, I realised that Kirkby's community had captured the very essence of ‘Pink Tutu Sparkles.’

Now, back to my fabulous tutu that stole the show at this “Tutu Time” event: This one, my dear, was an absolute stunner. Picture this: tiers of pink chiffon, the brightest, most vibrant shade of pink – it even had a shimmer of iridescent sequins! I’m told by those with very good eyes that the sequins even subtly shimmered with the shades of Kirkby’s famous stained-glass windows – very sophisticated! And let’s not forget the beautiful embellishments: delicately woven pink flowers (with just a hint of silver glitter).

I even threw a little extra sparkle into the mix by adding my trademark pearl earrings. Now, you'd think those pearls wouldn't stand a chance against the overwhelming pink – wrong! My ears glittered and shone, creating the perfect, glamorous contrast to my stunning outfit. Honestly, my darling, if you could have seen the reaction of the crowd when I made my grand entrance, I am certain you’d be overcome with joy – my sparkly smile had never been bigger!

Kirkby is officially a highlight in my pink-tutu-loving world!

You know I have so much more to share – this blog has only just scratched the surface. The energy was amazing – even the ducks by the canal seemed to be shimmering in pink that day – maybe I accidentally sprinkled a little extra tulle dust on my way through the market?! But this is all for now. Catch me next time on www.pink-tutu.com.

Until then, keep it pink!

P.S. Don't forget – wear pink, wear tulle, wear a tutu and you'll be a true pink sparkle too! 😉
