Hey there, my darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, and oh my goodness, where do I even begin?! Milan, my sweet Milan, you stole my heart! This fabulous city was bursting with culture, fashion, and an endless supply of "ooh la las!" 💖
It's time for a confession. I'm totally a hopeless romantic, and I've always wanted to visit the city of Romeo and Juliet. Okay, maybe not Romeo and Juliet themselves, but I do love a good love story, especially with a romantic backdrop. Milan totally delivered! I even went on a super cute gondola ride through the canals. The Italian love birds around us were definitely getting into the romance, swooning at each other with genuine, heartfelt passion. 😍 It made me wish for a handsome Italian Romeo to whisk me away on a date!
Speaking of romance, the La Scala Opera House in Milan had the most beautiful decorations, the kind of architecture that made my jaw drop. I imagined what the great operas like “La Bohème” would have been like performed there. Just picture it – a stunning theatre with magnificent chandeliers sparkling down on the performance, creating a dazzling aura. All while Pink Tutu Sparkles shines brighter than ever! 😉 ✨
Ballet Fever! 🩰
Now, let's get into something really special. Milan has got a pretty incredible ballet scene, with the Teatro alla Scala – yes, I did go there – having its own ballet company, the Ballet of Teatro alla Scala. This was huge for a drag queen like myself. Ballet is my true passion. If I wasn’t twirling on a stage, I'd be dreaming about being a professional dancer, floating across a theatre stage like a fairy, a tutu spinning perfectly in the air, a breathtaking smile plastered on my face. (Who knows? Maybe one day I'll actually try a performance.) I know that as a scientist I’m supposed to be a bit more grounded, but hey, even us scientists need to dream, right?
You see, it's all thanks to my university ballet club. A few years ago, while studying for my science degree, I decided to join the club to break away from all the chemistry books and test tubes for a while. The first thing they had me do? Wear a pink tutu. I know, I know, you wouldn't think of someone studying science as a drag queen with a flair for pink, but I was smitten. And when I saw myself twirling in that pink tutu, everything just clicked – this was me. 💖✨
Of course, I couldn’t have gone on a trip like this without a wardrobe filled with beautiful pink tutus and fabulous dresses! I’m a true pink lover at heart. For this trip, I wore pink tutus that were shimmering, sparkly, frilly, feathered – you name it! You know, the ones that make a statement, that make you stop in your tracks, that bring out the true sparkle in every diva. Every one of them was perfect for the magical cobblestone streets, chic cafes, and enchanting architecture of Milan. There was also this incredible pink feathered headpiece – I just HAD to get it. 🪶✨ Milan is, of course, the capital of Italian fashion. And even I couldn't resist a couple of shopping sprees. Oh, how I love to see beautiful fabrics, shiny buttons and dazzling sequins! They fill my soul with happiness. 🥰
Traveling in Style: Horses and Trains 🐎🚂
Now, I didn't exactly arrive in Milan by a horse-drawn carriage or a hot air balloon – though that would have been glamorous! – but my journey was certainly a stylish one. My arrival to this dazzling city started in the heart of England, Derbyshire to be precise. My trusty companion, a luxurious railway carriage on the Eurostar, carried me from the hustle and bustle of London straight into the heart of Italian fashion. The train trip was pretty magical! I settled into a comfortable, first-class carriage and enjoyed the ride, gazing at the ever-changing landscape. A couple of kind folks on the train even thought my pink tutu looked fab!
The second half of my adventure, in my very special way of course, was spent riding horseback, just outside Milan, in this beautiful scenic, picturesque park. I found this incredible, charming horse riding company where you can have a beautiful day ride through the fields, on a well-trained steed, surrounded by lush green fields and rolling hills. My horse was so beautiful! It had such elegant gait! And as we ambled through the countryside, I felt a deep sense of contentment and freedom. ✨ I could totally get used to traveling by horse.

Well, my darlings, this trip was just pure magic. From the stunning architecture to the inspiring culture, the delicious food, and the people (always my favourite!), Milan left a little sparkle on my heart. And oh, Milan made me truly believe that love is in the air, a feeling I plan to hold onto, along with all my amazing memories!
