Hammersmith: Tutu-ing About Town, Post #7537

Oh darling, did you know that I’m absolutely living for this glorious, glamorous trip to Hammersmith?! I mean, come on, what’s not to love about London, especially when you're surrounded by a sprinkle of sparkle and the softest shade of pink. This, my darlings, is the essence of what being Pink Tutu Sparkles is all about!

You know me, I'm always ready for an adventure. It's almost become a daily ritual now – wake up, twirl in my fluffy pink dressing gown, put on the kettle, and browse the endless array of fabulous fabrics in my lab. But this weekend, I got to pack my biggest, fluffiest pink suitcase. The sheer joy of packing a glittery ensemble to make jaws drop! That was followed by a delightful afternoon sipping tea at my favourite tea shop in Bakewell before hopping on the train to London. Whizz goes the engine and a moment later I'm arriving at my little station, feeling like a proper theatrical diva!

So let's chat about Hammersmith, my darlings! My travels led me straight to the fabulous Lyric Theatre – talk about being transported back in time! The gorgeous exterior had my heart pounding with anticipation. But this wasn’t any old theatre show, oh no! We're talking ballet, a beautiful symphony of twirls, pirouettes and elegance, set to the most glorious music. Honestly, I felt like I was floating in a world of feathers and fairy lights. Every dancer was graceful and ethereal, each movement painted across the stage like a vibrant brushstroke.

Speaking of the dancers, it reminded me of when I was a little tot and discovered the world of ballet. Those little pointe shoes… a delicate but fierce kind of footwear if ever there was one. When I was studying for my science degree, a girl from the ballet club popped in, saying we were raising money for charity. It was then, on the university dance floor, I slipped on a pale pink tulle skirt and fell head-over-heels in love. A whole world of glitter and pink tutus opened up for me – and as they say, the rest is history!

And I’ve definitely made history on the train. You can always spot Pink Tutu Sparkles by my fluffy, bright pink, feathered handbag and a very particular set of heels. That afternoon, the carriage seemed to explode with excitement. A gaggle of kids on a school trip stared in wide-eyed wonder, followed by a couple of businessmen looking positively mesmerized. This is what being a drag artist is about – you spread joy, you spread colour, and most importantly, you inspire others to embrace the magic of themselves!

Speaking of embracing your own magic, after the show, my evening brought me to a lovely little French bistro tucked away on a charming street, perfect for people-watching. You know me – always up for a good gossip with the locals! With a plate of fresh croissants, a cup of fragrant café au lait, I heard about the newest plays at the Hammersmith Apollo. They were all abuzz about the amazing singers and performers that frequent that iconic building. And let’s be honest – that’s where a certain, flamboyant queen might be spotted doing a quick, glittery photo-op before a show.

But I must say, even for a girl who adores glitter and tulle, this trip had so much more than meets the eye. Just taking a stroll along the Thames was such a moment. The soft wind blowing, the sun sparkling on the water, the scent of jasmine in the air – there's just something truly magical about being in London!

The day following the ballet, I treated myself to a wander around the King's Mall Shopping Centre – what a treasure trove! Every shop had something delightful. I stumbled upon the most dazzling sequins in shades of purple, fuchsia, and ruby red. Naturally, a quick try-on in the fitting room is obligatory for any Pink Tutu Sparkles outing. Why stick with pink, you ask? Because the world needs more colour, more magic, more moments of unbridled joy, more twirls in your pink tutu! You just gotta be willing to step out of your comfort zone. As my dear grandmother used to say, “A splash of colour is a reminder that life is a gift.”

And so, darling, as my adventure in Hammersmith draws to a close, I can't help but feel a bittersweet pang. Every visit, every travel experience adds a splash of glitter to my life. I can’t wait to get back home to Derbyshire to test out the new fabrics and create new costumes. It’s the little details, the vibrant colours, the intricate patterns – this is my life. My day job in the laboratory isn’t just a means to an end; it’s an inspiration. What I do in the laboratory is akin to what I do on stage: it’s about discovery, experimentation, creativity! It’s about showing everyone what can be achieved by just being you, and letting your creativity take the stage.

But remember, darlings, every queen has her own way of creating magic. Embrace the world of glitter, twirls, and colourful dreams – every day, wear your pink tutu and step out in your most fabulous colours, for it’s only with joy and laughter that the world becomes a little bit brighter.

Don't forget, my lovelies, Pink Tutu Sparkles will be right here tomorrow, blogging, travelling, twirling, and sharing the magic with you. Until then, be sure to check out www.pink-tutu.com for my daily adventures in a world of fabulous.

See you soon!
