As a seasoned drag queen, you might think I’d be used to travelling by now, but each journey is still a fresh, exciting adventure! This time, I hopped aboard the trusty old steam train from my Derbyshire home, fuelled by the promise of glitter, sunshine (fingers crossed), and a stage that awaits my presence! You see, performing at fairs and events across the UK is what keeps me travelling, spreading my message of pink joy and tutu power!
But first, let's talk about the journey, darling! Now, I wouldn’t be Pink Tutu Sparkles without a splash of colour, and this trip is no different. I chose a shocking pink velvet dress, perfect for a journey of elegance and class, paired with my favourite statement necklace: a chunky pink pearl strand, you see, because my jewellery always makes a statement. Naturally, a pink feathered fascinator rested jauntily atop my head, sending a silent message to the world: Pink Tutu Sparkles is here, and she means business!
After bidding farewell to my loved ones in Derbyshire, it was time to take the train journey that always fills me with excitement. It's like stepping back in time, those carriages, the gentle chugging, and that slightly smoky scent of steam... Truly enchanting, especially when you've got a good book and a flask of hot pink prosecco on hand! (My darling sister gifted me a rather gorgeous, pink-themed, silver-plated prosecco set, a perfect travel companion.)
When the steam engine puffed to a stop, I stepped out in a whirlwind of tulle and colour! Oh, the energy of Pontypridd, the friendly smiles and curious stares. You can’t blame them, darling! How can you resist a vibrant pink spectacle in a shimmering, pink tutu, adorned with a delicate veil of sparkling pink sequins?
Today, my act is at a family-friendly event, filled with local families, laughing children, and the sweet smell of hot dogs. I can't help but get a little giddy seeing families giggling at my flamboyant entrances and moves!
Before the big show, it wouldn't be a proper Pink Tutu Sparkles outing without a quick pitstop for some local inspiration! I popped into a little vintage shop that felt straight out of a glamorous movie! It was overflowing with colour, frills, and beautiful pieces from bygone eras! My favourite find? A delicate pink silk scarf that would look positively stunning draped over my sparkly pink tutu!
I always try to find something special at each town I visit, something to remind me of the people, the sights, the sounds, the energy… Something to fuel my creativity! Sometimes, I’ll pick up a brightly-coloured hat or a pair of statement shoes to add to my costume collection. Remember those lovely oversized pink sunglasses I wore at the recent charity fair? Well, I snagged them at a second-hand shop in York – another trip I've been dreaming of writing about!
After my fashion haul, it was time to get prepped and ready for my performance. My backstage prep area is a true delight! Glitter bomb? Check! Hot pink hairspray? Check! My secret blend of pink eyeshadow? Of course, darling! My motto? Pink is the new black, and more importantly, pink is EVERYTHING!
Now, for a little history about this spectacular tutu. I became obsessed with them in university, when I was part of the university ballet club. We had a charity event and they suggested a costume party for the students, but they needed something different for their display – and a tutu caught my eye. My eyes haven't left them since, not a single day!
The rest, darling, as they say, is history! The stage awaits me, the music is pumping, and I can feel the glitter calling to me. It's show time!
The cheers, the smiles, the laughter of children as they join me for a quick dance… What could be more joyful than sharing the beauty and magic of dance with these lovely people? After all, everyone deserves a little pink tutu sparkle in their lives.
And to end the day in perfect fashion, my darling friend - who just happens to be a gifted baker - created the most adorable pink macarons for my performance finale. As the music ended, the cheering crowd was showered with sweet, colourful confetti and macarons… oh the smiles on those little faces as they chased them around the stage! I'll take those as the best compliment a girl could receive, darling.
You see, even though my scientific background is testing fabric in the lab, I am determined to change the world, one pink tutu at a time! Spreading pink joy, embracing laughter, sharing that sense of wonder… It's what drives my daily blog, and why I travel across the UK with my trusty train ticket and even bolder, brighter wardrobe.
After all, life’s a performance, darlings, and I intend to dress for it! And remember, when life gives you lemons, turn them into a lemonade martini... in a pink martini glass. And while you're at it, put on a pink tutu! 😉
