Yes, my darlings, I've finally made it to the bustling seaside city, and I am absolutely bursting with excitement! You see, this little trip is not just any ordinary jaunt - it's all about the ballet, baby!
Before I spill all the juicy details about the divine performance I witnessed at the Theatre Royal, let me tell you how I even got here in the first place. It all started with a whirlwind of a journey - and by journey, I mean a glorious ride on a glorious, handsome train! (I swear, the engine had its own twinkle in its eye). Picture it: Me, all glammed up in a fabulously frilly pink tutu, perched like a sugar plum fairy in the first class carriage, with my little black bag packed with a whole rainbow of glitter and the biggest grin on my face. Oh, the sheer joy of traveling! It truly makes my heart soar!
Of course, being a creature of habit (and let's be honest, utterly obsessed with pink tutus), I couldn't resist a quick stop at the city's most fabulous department store to find myself a new accessory to wear to the ballet. It wasn't difficult, darlings! The place was practically begging to be explored, filled with frothy delights that whispered sweet temptations into my ears. Imagine my glee when I stumbled upon a pair of sparkling pink gloves – just what the doctor ordered!
But enough about my shopping sprees, darlings, let's get down to the real reason I travelled all the way to this gorgeous city – to see the National Ballet Company of China perform Swan Lake. Oh, my dears! It was beyond divine! I was mesmerized. Every pirouette, every grand jeté, every flutter of a tutu... pure perfection! I dare say, the swan queen's feather-light elegance had me completely transfixed! And don't even get me started on the beautiful costumes – sparkling with sequins, feathers, and those incredible tiaras. It was an absolute visual feast for the eyes!
Seeing those graceful ballerinas move with such control and poise really reminded me how much I love ballet myself. It's such an incredible form of expression, and I love that I can find that same passion in my drag. After all, every time I twirl in my pink tutu, I'm dancing a story - whether it’s about strength, love, resilience, or just sheer joy. I guess it's no surprise then that after the ballet, I simply had to check out a local dance class.
There I was, standing among a gaggle of giggling ladies, ready to shimmy my way through some simple but oh-so-elegant moves. The teacher was so sweet – a real-life ballerina with a smile brighter than a disco ball – and we were all so giddy with laughter and excitement. After a little bit of practice, I was really getting into it! By the end of the session, I felt lighter than a feather, ready to twirl through life!
The next day, I was feeling oh-so-inspired, so naturally, I decided to embrace the Portsmouth promenade! This enchanting seafront was like something straight out of a fairy tale. It was such a breath of fresh air to simply wander by the crashing waves, feeling the cool breeze brush against my pink tulle. And the view? Simply divine!
Portsmouth's vibrant harbour, the towering historical landmarks, all gleaming in the sunlight - truly breathtaking. Of course, I couldn’t resist capturing some snaps of myself in my tutu. Gotta love those picture-perfect opportunities, darling!
While Portsmouth has truly been a joy to explore, it's time for me to pack up my sequins and tutu and head back to Derbyshire, where my lab coat awaits! I might be a drag queen with a passion for pink tutus, but I’m also a scientist! (My alter ego by day, so to speak!). I work with textiles, and it’s endlessly fascinating to explore the chemistry of color, texture, and resilience – almost like a secret world!
