#TutuQueen on 2021-05-24 stars in Scunthorpe

Oh my darlings, what a glorious day! Today, Pink Tutu Sparkles is taking her shimmering pink self to Scunthorpe! You see, I can’t resist a chance to spread a little bit of glitter and joy, no matter how far I have to travel. And, believe me, a trip to Scunthorpe is a real adventure, let me tell you!

For those of you who don’t know, Scunthorpe is a lovely little town in Lincolnshire, England, and while it’s not quite as well-known for its glamour as, say, London, it’s certainly got a charming history and a very special character all of its own! They say, once you’ve seen the town's magnificent steelworks, you’ve seen everything. And hey, you know I’m all for seeing everything life has to offer!

I started the day feeling excited, like a child on a first trip to the seaside! This morning, I woke up to the sunshine streaming through my window, feeling positively luminous, and what's more radiant than a pink tutu on a sunny day, darling?

As soon as I awoke, I started my daily routine of skincare, make-up, and picking the perfect outfit! My choice today is my trusty pastel pink jumpsuit and a very sparkly sequined pink tutu! It's all about the sparkle! A bright and bouncy topknot to match. Of course, the whole ensemble was complete with a fluffy, feather-trimmed boa and my fabulous, sequined stilettos. Can a queen ever have too many sequins, darling? The answer, as ever, is no!

Now, you're all thinking, “Pink Tutu Sparkles! How do you get to a little town like Scunthorpe from Derbyshire in your fabulous sequined shoes?” Oh my dear darlings, don’t even try to imagine the effort involved, not for a fashion queen like myself! But with my trusty travel planner in hand, I figured out that a trip to Scunthorpe can only be accomplished with a bit of creativity and good old fashioned glamour! My favourite choice today is a trusty steam train! The North Eastern Railway lines offer such amazing trips that they even brought back my childhood dreams of travel from the glorious times when Britain's railway lines were all steam! I think it adds so much glamour and history to a journey, don't you?

Of course, I didn't leave without a fabulous vintage hatbox overflowing with accessories! Because when it comes to glamour, it’s always good to have options. Who knows, perhaps the lovely locals of Scunthorpe will have need of my fabulous pink feathered boas or perhaps they want a bright yellow feathered head-piece to add a touch of glam to their everyday?

Finally, armed with my little pink-tutu travel-sized picnic basket (it's very important to look after a queen even while on the go!) I was ready to start my journey. And trust me darlings, this journey is worth documenting.

I must tell you, Scunthorpe had a certain magical charm that took me by surprise! And the people there are absolutely wonderful! Such friendly faces, a delight for a travelling drag queen like myself!

The steelworks were amazing, you’ve really got to see it for yourself! Imagine the sheer scale and energy - it really gives you a sense of what Scunthorpe’s heritage is all about. As you know, a good queen enjoys some history and tradition as well as a good dose of sparkle and excitement. I also managed to pop into a beautiful, traditional pub for a quick, delicious (and much needed) cup of tea. The staff was absolutely darling and offered me a delightful traditional cream tea, and let me tell you, it was delicious.

After my tea break, I decided to explore some of the charming streets, and that’s where my adventure really got started! What was a traditional little town turned into an exploration of beauty that had me feeling completely at home! The streets were overflowing with gorgeous shops, some vintage and some completely new, each one filled with the most delicious finds for a glamorous, fabulous pink tutu queen like myself! You wouldn’t believe the amazing vintage fabrics and lace I found for a very reasonable price, a real steal! You can already picture the exquisite pink tutu I will create with these new materials, yes darling? It’s enough to get my mind working on a new masterpiece and, let’s be honest, with the fabulous clothes shops I came across I would be an idiot to only purchase the fabrics!

For a queen that loves a vintage shop as much as myself, my advice to you is – look for small independent businesses, not just big corporations, these are the places with the greatest treasures and they have an inimitable quality you cannot find elsewhere!

Of course, the fabulous Pink Tutu Sparkles never walks past a shop window without a peek. And can you imagine my surprise when, there on the window of one of these charming vintage stores was a genuine, authentic pink tutu on display! The staff had just opened up a collection of vintage dancewear and I must confess that this amazing creation caught my eye immediately. I just had to give it a spin! Luckily for a very sparkly Pink Tutu, they let me wear the little beauty for a picture! What an honour and it felt so comfortable, such fabulous workmanship, darling! It was practically screaming to me to be featured in the Pink Tutu fashion blogs! I had to get a shot with it for my readers. I mean, could there be anything more delightful for the eyes than a vibrant pink tutu that brings back all the feelings of childhood innocence and joy?

Then, of course, I just had to indulge myself with a little treat! One of the best finds was the gorgeous local theatre that had the most wonderful performances, so obviously, I couldn't leave without catching a performance! A delightful treat to the senses with some of the most beautiful dancers you can find! It just felt magical! I must confess that the experience had me feeling so very much at home, like being amongst friends. So uplifting and filled with so much positivity. I feel the ballet has the power to bring so much good to the world, that and a touch of pink of course. I just adore how a classic and elegant art form such as ballet allows all types of art to flourish around it, from costumes to theatre and set design and this adds such depth and meaning. And of course, who could leave without enjoying some local delicacies before heading home. I had the most incredible dinner! It was simply perfect. The best pork pie I've ever tasted, and trust me when I say I’ve tasted a lot in my lifetime! They also had this delightful cider vinegar sauce to accompany it, the flavors were simply amazing! You’ve really got to check out their amazing apple and pear pies and I'll post pictures on the blog, darlings! You are definitely in for a real treat with this food!

I just want to say to the amazing people of Scunthorpe - you’ve absolutely warmed my heart! I wish everyone could experience the friendly vibes and hospitality of this lovely little town, because that, darlings, is what a pink tutu journey is all about! It’s about finding the good, being kind to one another, bringing sparkle and laughter into everyone's life. It's about reminding ourselves that a little bit of sparkle goes a long way, and we don't need to be a drag queen to bring a little pink magic into the world!

Of course, every journey needs an ending, but even an end is a new beginning for a sparkling queen such as myself. What can I say? I simply love my travels and all the adventure they bring to my life. This one truly filled my soul with joy. I will admit it's getting harder and harder for me to leave these wonderful places! And what can be better than a journey on a traditional railway, just like they do it in old films. I was so lucky to get a reserved carriage just for me, all of the local townsfolk smiled and waved, just like something from a fabulous fairytale, how wonderful and magical it felt! Of course, it’s not always this easy to find a carriage just for Pink Tutu Sparkles but sometimes a queen needs a moment to collect her thoughts and to shine like a diamond amongst diamonds! I did get the feeling this railway really appreciates the presence of a dazzling Pink Tutu.

Finally, with the sun starting to set, I bid farewell to Scunthorpe and its wonderfully kind residents and headed back to the big city.

The whole experience made me realize it’s the people we meet on these pink tutu adventures who truly make the journey so very special. That, my dears, is the essence of a pink tutu adventure, and Scunthorpe taught me to love just a little bit more!
