The sun was shining bright as I boarded the train from Derbyshire, my pink tulle flowing gently in the breeze as I admired the view from the window. A day trip to Southall was just what I needed to get my creative juices flowing, and to finally share my latest ballet obsession with you! I mean, who doesn’t love a good pirouette on the platform?
This trip was extra special for two reasons: First, I was on a mission to find the perfect new pink tutu! Southall's market is famous for its vibrant clothing stalls and bustling energy, and I knew it would be the perfect place to snag a dazzling new addition to my collection. Second, I'd been invited to a performance by a local ballet troupe! They are performing Swan Lake in a lovely community hall. The thought of sharing my passion for the dance with others had my heart soaring, almost as high as a ballerina in the grand jeté!
Finding my Tutu Soulmate
I love Southall’s vibrant atmosphere and I was excited to lose myself amongst the colourful stalls! My quest was pretty much like Cinderella finding her slipper. I was on the lookout for a tutu that whispered to my soul. The one I imagined was fluffy and delicate, perfect for swirling in. It was like being a character from a children’s book and stepping into a magical story, all twirling skirts and bright pink hues.
Luckily, my mission wasn't in vain. After dodging a couple of market stalls overflowing with fruit and vegetables (oh the vibrant hues!), I stumbled upon the most perfect pink tutu hiding among an abundance of colourful fabrics. The moment I laid eyes on it, my heart skipped a beat and my inner ballerina let out a joyous leap! This tutu wasn't just a piece of fabric, it was a vision. It had all the fluffy ruffles I desired, and it sparkled with sequins that caught the light beautifully.
With the new tutu safely in tow, I felt like a real fairy godmother. This piece of fluffy pink magic was a must-have, a masterpiece, a truly divine treasure that I knew would make its grand debut in my next drag performance.

But my adventure in Southall wasn't solely about finding my perfect tutu. That's why I couldn't resist the chance to catch the local ballet troupe’s performance of Swan Lake.
The hall, bursting with enthusiastic families, had an infectious buzz of excitement. There was a sense of genuine camaraderie, reminding me how much community unites us. It was a beautiful display of talent and dedication from the troupe members, and I felt a strong sense of shared passion as the audience cheered and applauded their stunning performances. I truly loved their performance - it made my heart skip a beat every time those graceful ballerinas danced across the stage. The elegance and precision of the movements, the story told through graceful leaps and turns, it all added to the beautiful spectacle. And then there was the music! Every note took me on an emotional rollercoaster. From the beautiful melodies of the romantic sequences to the dramatic music of the final scene, it felt like I was caught in a magical dream.
During the interval, I had a chance to chat with a lovely group of mothers, who were as mesmerised by the performance as I was. One of them even confided that her daughter dreamed of dancing with the Royal Ballet someday, something I can definitely relate to. She asked me about my experiences with ballet, and about what I loved most about this incredible art form.
