Hey, my darling tutu-loving friends! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing queen of sparkle, ready to bring a dash of colour and joy to your day!
As you all know, this fabulous diva is always on the go, travelling the land (and sometimes, the sea!) spreading the joy of pink tutus. And this week, I found myself on a delightful journey to North Shields, a vibrant seaside town with a spirit as sparkly as my sequins!
This journey started with the familiar thrill of stepping onto a train. Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good car journey, but there's something undeniably romantic and freeing about gliding through the countryside on a train, watching the world whizz by in a kaleidoscope of greens, browns, and blues. It's the perfect opportunity for me to settle into my favourite seat, get comfy, and let my imagination run wild.
You wouldn't believe the number of outfits I sketched on the journey! Every scenic vista, every charming village we passed through, inspired me. I’m already plotting a North Shields-inspired ballet-themed ensemble – think shimmering silver fabric and swirling tulle, with a touch of seafoam green for that "seaside chic" look. My, oh my!
Speaking of seaside chic, the moment I stepped off the train in North Shields, I was greeted by a sea of lovely faces! I simply adore small towns with big personalities and North Shields has it in spades. The friendly locals, the bustling harbour, the aroma of salt air mingling with the scent of fresh fish, and that quaint little theatre on the corner – all of it screamed "Pink Tutu Sparkle's latest performance venue!"
But before the spotlight hit my dazzling pink tulle, it was time to explore. I ventured into the cobblestone alleys, with their antique shops and art galleries, where I discovered a little shop that was like a dream come true – a true haven for vintage fashion and the most gloriously over-the-top hat collection you ever did see! It's the perfect place for a drag queen looking to add some fabulousness to her wardrobe. Of course, I left with a bewitching velvet hat, which I immediately incorporated into my new look! I can't wait to wear it during my performance!
Speaking of performances, let me tell you, my dear friends, the energy at the North Shields Theatre was simply electric! The audience was amazing, clapping and cheering every move! The atmosphere was so magical and positive, making it easy to connect with the crowd and spread the love (and sparkle!). After the show, I was showered with compliments about my costumes and dance routines, which is always the best feeling. A performance like that is truly worth every second of rehearsal and costume designing!
However, my love for a good performance wouldn't have been complete without a dose of classical ballet, you see. North Shields, it turns out, is home to a wonderful ballet school, a place where elegance and artistry are brought to life! The moment I stepped inside, I felt like a little girl again, lost in a world of pirouettes and grand jetés. I took a class with the students and the energy in the room was simply invigorating! Seeing young dancers so passionate about their craft was incredibly inspiring. I think we’re planning on a "Tutu Tuesday" where the dancers and I do a fun tutorial! Watch this space for updates!
Naturally, the highlight of any trip for me is finding the most perfect pink tutu – and North Shields did not disappoint. I stumbled upon a hidden treasure, a vintage shop tucked away in a narrow alleyway. It was packed from floor to ceiling with the most exquisite, colorful dresses, including a pink tutu with the most beautiful feathered detail! Imagine the drama! Needless to say, it's now mine.
Of course, no trip to a coastal town would be complete without indulging in some delicious local cuisine. From freshly caught seafood to the most divine creamy fish pie I've ever tasted – I was in foodie heaven. Now, I know what you're thinking – fish pie with a pink tutu? Absolutely! I mean, there's just no stopping the Pink Tutu Sparkles when it comes to combining fashion and food. It's all part of the charm, my darlings.
Speaking of charming, the people of North Shields have such warm hearts and an infectious enthusiasm. Every smile, every friendly greeting, made me feel truly welcome. I love discovering new places and meeting new people, and I always feel so grateful for the support I receive on my journey, whether it’s online or in person.
