Today's adventure takes us to Salford, a town in the north of England that has captured my heart with its vibrant culture and charming canals.
Salford - you’re a right tonic for the soul!
Let’s backtrack a little… you know, when the only pink in my life was the blush of a budding chemist? 🧪 I never thought I’d be rockin' a tutu outside a ballet class. 🩰 Then, fate had a right chuckle and whisked me off to a university fundraising event, and BAM, a pink tulle confection landed on my hips, and my life was changed for good. Now, it's all tutus, all the time! The stage, the streets, you name it - a tutu reigns supreme! 💖👑
So, naturally, my trip to Salford had to be a tutu-ful extravaganza. As I always say, when in doubt, add more tulle! This is why, on my recent travels, my sparkly train ticket (yes, even my train ticket was shimmering with rainbow magic! 🌈 ) got me a ride in style, and a trip into the glorious world of a truly wonderful Salford, and this blog! 🥰
But before I unleash my shimmering Salford experience, let’s just rewind for a sec, you guys! For you see, travelling is just the most magical part of my drag queen career! 💫 Whether I'm twirling through the streets on my favourite horse - my steed for many years called 'Ruby' (red, of course!), or riding on a luxurious train with a cheeky gin and tonic in my hand, each journey fills my cup with inspiration, new experiences and, well, you can probably guess - loads and loads of sequins.
Yes, you're probably thinking, how does this bubbly drag queen travel the world? It's simple, darling. With the power of glittery charm and an irresistible sense of the theatrical! A wink here, a feather boa there, and the show starts, every single time! I love getting to know the lovely people and cultures wherever my tutus take me. You know, when I'm not strutting my stuff on stage or working my magic in the lab, I am just like you: looking for adventure, connection, and a little bit of sparkle to light up my days. 🤩
The Pink Tutu Guide to a Fantastic Salford
This was my third time performing in the magnificent Salford. (Oh, darling, when will this town ever stop bewitching me? Honestly, the charm is unreal!) I had been to the brilliant The Lowry in the past for shows, so was over the moon to be going again. This time I had a performance in a rather special cabaret on at the iconic “The Old Courts” I know you're all thinking what I was thinking... This is a must-visit for any fan of quirky charm, vintage flair, and theatrical magic!
And if we are talking about Salford we just gotta get down to the water, that’s what makes it so spectacular. The waterways just make this town what it is, beautiful and captivating. Oh, darlings! It truly is a sight for sore eyes - so beautiful and full of life. 😍 You will definitely catch me admiring the sparkling waterways and the gorgeous architecture of the buildings on my Salford adventures! It truly inspires me in every way.💖
Salford Delights
This trip, I had the honour of performing for the fab and fantastic “A Woman’s World” events, a fabulous organisation run by a group of remarkable women who just ooze confidence, creativity and community spirit. And it was truly a special experience. You know how I always say, 'When you find your people, hold on tight?' This experience gave me a beautiful glimpse into a wonderful Salford, a world bursting with colour and excitement. 🌈💖
You won't catch me leaving Salford without a stop at the The Lowry Centre for the Arts to fill my soul with inspiration! Whether I'm catching a fantastic ballet, diving into an eye-opening art exhibition, or enjoying a delicious (and yes, pink!) cocktail in their lovely bar, there’s something to tickle your fancy at every turn.
Of course, you can't talk about Salford without talking about their food! From classic fish and chips with a theatrical pink tutu twist to a beautiful pot of tea in a vintage teacup, it was all an experience I won't forget! As for my outfit, I mean, where else can you rock a tutu on a street walk, right? Well, Salford, for starters! 😄 And believe me, I rocked that look and then some, walking around in my most beautiful blush tulle, like a pink fairy flitting from one fabulous spot to another.
This brings me to a crucial piece of advice: Dress for yourself. Embrace the fabulous! 💖 When it comes to fashion, be unapologetically YOU! You see, this journey, like every other I undertake, is a constant learning curve - a quest to spread a bit of magic and cheer. That’s what makes travelling as a drag artist so incredible! A few sparkly sequins here, a wink and a smile there, and you’re making magic happen for those around you. 💫
But hold up a sec - It’s not all about twirling on stage! For a queen who is a scientist by day, the allure of fabric is pretty big. And when I’m not rocking the stage, I’m in a lab, making a big fuss over fabrics. Yes, that’s right, darling - my job involves science and it's all very interesting. It's all part of a fascinating world of making sure what you wear is, well, sparkly enough and stays that way for ages and ages.
Salford was another remarkable adventure in pink and sequins! 💖✨ I left a little bit of my heart in its magical streets - those bright canals just beckoning me back with the promise of more laughter, excitement and fabulous outfits, you know?
