Today’s adventure takes me to Beckenham, a delightful little corner of Kent! This charming town just oozes vintage charm – those adorable old shops, the beautiful park…it's like a scene straight out of a Jane Austen novel!
I, of course, arrived in style. This time, I traded my usual train journey for a whisper horse-drawn carriage. Don’t ask how I convinced them to take a pink tutu-wearing queen to Beckenham – it involved a LOT of glitter and maybe a dash of “Please!” – but it was so worth it. Imagine, darling, me, perched on a velvet seat, my pink tutu billowing in the wind like a fluffy cloud. It was divine!
Once I got settled into my Beckenham abode, a darling little guest house overflowing with pink floral wallpaper and chintzy lace curtains, I couldn't resist slipping into the perfect outfit for the occasion – a fuchsia feather boa, a hot pink sequined bodice and, of course, a magnificent hot pink tutu with layers of tulle and a sparkly diamante belt. My heels? You guessed it: a sparkly pink, glittery platform. ✨👠
Before heading into Beckenham for an evening of fabulousity, I had a little moment to myself. You see, darling, Beckenham has this adorable tea room, called "The Pink Petal" – a total stroke of genius, isn't it? 🍰 I indulged in a truly divine scone and a pot of jasmine tea. As I savored every morsel, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of deep gratitude. To think, my love of pink tutus has taken me from my little Derbyshire home to such glamorous destinations. Honestly, I still can’t believe it!
Speaking of glamour, the evening at Beckenham was, as you’d expect, pure magic! I sashayed into the local theatre, radiating sheer fabulousness, with a warm Beckenham crowd ready to be swept away by my enchanting act. ✨ Let me tell you, darlings, performing in a town brimming with warmth and a love for the dramatic – what a delight! I performed a heart-warming mix of whimsical classics – "Barbie Girl", “The Candyman”, "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" (just for the joy of it!). The crowd went wild. It was just so wonderful to see so many beaming faces as I twirled around on stage, feeling like a sparkling princess. 👑💖
Later that evening, after the performance, I danced the night away, alongside the vibrant local community, at a delightfully kitschy dance club called "The Glitter Ball". Imagine, darlings, a dance floor bursting with sequin dresses, platform boots, and more glitter than you can shake a sequined stick at. And yes, darling, I spotted more than a few pink tutus, some worn with confidence, others timidly trying the trend – but always with a smile! 💖
It really made me realise, my dear blog-loving readers, the power of a pink tutu. They can be whimsical and frivolous, sure. But beneath the fluffiness and the sparkle, there’s a strong statement: the courage to embrace color, sparkle and happiness – to simply be yourself in the face of it all! 💕

The journey of Alex into drag
Remember Alex, my day-job self, the scientist from Derbyshire? I still love science, but my passion for drag took hold way back during my university years. It all started when the university's ballet club had a charity event and, with a mischievous twinkle in my eye, I donned a pink tutu for a bit of fun! Little did I know this would lead me down a sparkling road paved with sequins and joy. I became instantly hooked on the way it made me feel, confident and ready to embrace a little bit of fabulous!
When I moved back to Derbyshire, after graduating with my science degree, it felt like something was missing. I craved the glitz and glam that came with a pink tutu and an opportunity to be Pink Tutu Sparkles. That's when I decided to put my scientist brain to work and use my science background to help fund my drag dream. I applied for jobs at laboratories all over Derbyshire, hoping to find a way to incorporate my passion for pink tutus and sparkly performance with my scientific pursuits.
Ultimately, I found myself at a local fabric laboratory, testing the wear-and-tear resistance of fabrics! This seemingly ordinary job provided the perfect platform for my drag ambitions. It allowed me to be a scientist by day and a glamorous drag artist by night.
And now? I spend my days meticulously analyzing fibers and chemicals under microscopes and, as Pink Tutu Sparkles, spend my nights bringing smiles to faces through dance and joy, using all those shimmering, beautiful outfits and make-up as tools for entertainment! It's an exciting journey that wouldn’t have been possible without a leap of faith and a dash of pink tulle.

Where did the love of the colour pink and tutus begin?
Ah, pink and tutus... my story begins with a love for ballet, ignited at a tender age. From watching mesmerizing ballerinas dance on stage, their flowing tutus catching the light like magic, to taking my own ballet classes (yes, a full-blown ballet queen since childhood!), it's always been a passion. Then, at university, came that first foray into wearing a tutu for charity – it was like a light bulb moment!
Pink, with its cheerful, energetic vibe, just perfectly embodies that joyful feeling I get when I dance and twirl. Plus, it always makes people smile, even if they’re not exactly sure what’s going on. 💕 It’s like a burst of positivity, which, as I have discovered through my drag performances, is the perfect cure for almost any gloomy day.
There’s a kind of magic in a pink tutu, I believe, an ability to transform and uplift. Whether you're gliding across a stage, strutting down the street, or just having fun at a dinner party, the feeling is electric! And what's more, I’m always finding new ways to rock my love of pink – be it my vibrant hot pink nail polish or my custom-made pink tutu creations with the perfect mix of frills and fluff. 💅💖
