Hello darlings! Your girl Pink Tutu Sparkles here, bringing you another sparkly, fabulous travel diary from the glamorous world of tutus and travel. Today, we're leaving the sunshine of the South behind, packing up my best pink tulle, and heading North for a whirlwind adventure in Castleford! 🚂
Now, I've never been to Castleford before, but when I heard about this exciting new gig, I knew I had to see what all the fuss was about. You see, sometimes you just gotta follow your gut feeling, and that gut feeling screamed "pink tutu" and "Castleford". I've always loved discovering new places, and I figure, where better to do it than in my signature style?
For those who don't know me, I'm Alex, a scientist by day and a pink-tutu-wearing drag queen extraordinaire by night. It's kind of like a glamorous double life, you see. Now, how did I end up here in drag? It all started with a charity fundraiser back in my uni days. A bunch of us were helping out at this fundraising event, and for a dare, I put on this HUGE pink tutu... and well, I fell in love! Ever since that day, I've been spreading the joy of tutus all across the world, one twirl at a time.
Now, Castleford's a bit of a different vibe than some of the other spots I've been to - it's got that grit and charm that's so unique to the North. There's this fantastic local theatre I'm performing at tonight, it’s small and intimate with such a warm and welcoming feel to it, a perfect place for me to unleash my glitter. They have this gorgeous little cafe that does a smashing hot chocolate - we'll be sure to pop in for a sugar rush before the show. Plus, the people here are just so lovely - everyone I’ve spoken to has been so friendly and enthusiastic! I felt instantly welcomed into the Castleford family.
Of course, no Pink Tutu Sparkles trip would be complete without some fabulous shopping sprees. There's this hidden little gem of a shop called 'Frock Around The Clock' in the heart of Castleford. Oh darling, you have no idea what a paradise of pink it is! They have everything from dazzling, oversized feathered boas to sparkly headbands that would make even a queen cry. I came out with enough sparkly things to rival a disco ball.
Did I mention that I’m an absolute fan of ballet? Now, it just so happens that Castleford has its very own Ballet School – a gorgeous old building, full of grace and magic. I’ve snuck in a ballet class - they have a brilliant teacher who, dare I say, taught me some pretty fabulous moves. I think she was a little surprised when a pink-tutu-wearing drag queen waltzed into her class but, after a little chat, she loved the vibe I brought. I'll be sure to report back on the progress I’m making at the school, and whether I’m actually any good at it.
For my Castleford performances, I'm debuting a brand new number. It’s a playful blend of ballet and jazz, inspired by the whole vibe of the place. Imagine graceful leaps in a bright pink tutu, sassy shimmying, and some serious show-stopping attitude - that’s what I’m aiming for!
And let's not forget my favourite way to get around: on a magnificent train journey. I’m so happy to have been travelling by train – the views from the window were spectacular, the rolling green hills and little villages. You know me - I’ve got a proper love for train journeys – there’s a whole adventure, getting lost in the scenery.

Castleford, you’ve definitely captured my heart, and who knows – I might just have to bring my pink tutus back to Castleford soon!
