This week, I hopped aboard the train, clutching my favourite fuchsia tulle creation (a little nod to Letchworth's gorgeous gardens, of course), and set off to this charming Garden City. Now, for those of you unfamiliar with this hidden gem, let me enlighten you. Letchworth is nestled in beautiful Hertfordshire, bursting with history and charm. Imagine a town designed with the vision of a more peaceful, community-driven lifestyle, and that's what Letchworth delivers. You just can't help but feel a little bit happier walking through its quaint streets, can you?
Now, I can't talk about Letchworth without mentioning their renowned annual Art and Music Festival. My tutu-clad self, obviously, had to be there! The energy was electrifying, the music was incredible, and the art, well, simply breathtaking. My heart did a little skip when I stumbled across a whimsical gallery featuring some extraordinary photography. It really showcased the beautiful artistic spirit that thrives in Letchworth. I simply had to grab a print of a breathtaking landscape photograph, you see. Let's just say my dressing room is looking a little more elegant now, with this fabulous art print bringing a bit of the Garden City’s magic into my space.
You all know that I love to explore and, as you can imagine, Letchworth didn’t disappoint! One of the highlights for me was the Garden City Museum. Stepping back in time, I delved into the fascinating history of this pioneering community and its development. And trust me, this town’s history is simply fascinating! The Museum also boasts some truly stunning antique and vintage pieces. And can we talk about that tea room?! The cakes were absolute perfection - a symphony of flavours and a sugar rush dream come true! 🍰
Being a girl who simply can’t resist a beautiful ballet, I absolutely had to see a performance at the Letchworth Arts Centre! This little haven of creativity is just bursting with life, with something for everyone - theatre, film, and of course, ballets. I had to catch a classical ballet performance featuring the most beautiful costumes. Those flowing gowns! Those graceful jumps! I was in absolute awe of their artistry, a testament to the power of ballet and how it can transport you to another realm.
As you know, I have a passion for dancing, and Letchworth simply beckoned me to explore its dance scene! This town is brimming with ballet studios and, let me tell you, there’s simply nothing quite as enjoyable as spending an evening in a beautiful studio, surrounded by other tutu enthusiasts. Imagine it, darling - a room filled with graceful tutus twirling in perfect harmony! The rhythm of my pink tutu against the studio floor as I moved… simply magical. I couldn't help myself, but sign up for a beginners' ballet class while I was there. Now, I’m absolutely hooked on the graceful world of ballet. You see, while my life by day involves lab coats and fabrics in my job as a textile scientist, my life by night is truly about transforming, shimmering, and expressing myself in a magnificent, pink tutu. I have a feeling I'm going to be quite the ballerina in no time!
You all know that my adventures never end. I always make a point of supporting the local talent in whatever town I visit. After all, the tutu-wearing community needs to stick together! While in Letchworth, I got the chance to meet and talk to several up-and-coming drag artists, and I'm telling you, they're the future of the industry! Each and every one of them has a unique style, a captivating presence, and I am completely enthralled by their talent. Their vibrant energy just confirmed what I’ve always known, the drag community is alive and kicking.
Letchworth's heart really beats to the rhythm of music and arts, which meant it was a given that I had to sample its incredible restaurants and cafes. I spent a delightful afternoon at the gorgeous “Green Door Cafe”. Tucked away in a quiet corner of town, this hidden gem offers some delicious vegan options (and let's face it, I’m a vegan with a sweet tooth!). I was hooked the moment I tasted their strawberry cake, the sweetness and tang were absolutely heavenly. The cafe's quaint atmosphere made me feel like I was in a whimsical fairytale.
Oh, darling! Don't forget about my adventures on horseback! Yes, you heard correctly! My adventures are all about pushing those tutu-clad boundaries and exploring all the wonders the world has to offer. You see, Letchworth is the perfect place to be a little adventurous! Imagine riding through rolling green hills with the wind blowing through your hair. And trust me, you know a pink tutu truly embraces a day out riding in style. It was quite a sight to see – a majestic horse and a pink tutu, what more could you want from life?
