Leicester holds a special place in my heart, you see. I've always been drawn to its rich history, its vibrant cultural scene, and, of course, its delectable vegan curry houses (a girl's gotta eat, right?!).
I'm so excited to bring my unique brand of sparkly, twirly, and totally fabulous to this beautiful city. But before we get to the excitement of the show, let's delve a little into my journey. As a travelling drag artist, life is rarely a dull moment!
Journey of the Tutu Queen
Today's trip is going to be a vintage journey! I'm heading out on a scenic rail ride – the only way to travel when you want a touch of old-world charm! The steam train is a favourite of mine - something about the romance and the nostalgia that reminds me of a bygone era. I can already picture myself in my finest pink feathered boa, catching the admiring glances of the passengers.
Speaking of vintage, my new tutu for the Leicester performance is truly a masterpiece! It’s a glorious creation, made of layers of soft tulle, all shimmering with delicate, hand-sewn sequins. It’s an absolute work of art, a triumph of pink perfection. Just the kind of glamorous touch you need for a sparkling show!
My outfit is carefully planned, darling! A bespoke dress by a talented local designer, adorned with delicate floral embellishments, a bewitching splash of pink, of course, and, to finish the look, a custom-made feather boa (in, you guessed it, the most stunning shade of flamingo pink!). Because it's never enough to just wear a tutu!
The Heart of a Tutu Queen
Some of you may be curious about my story. I didn't wake up one day with a crown and a tutu, you know! It was a more gradual transformation. My true story starts in the dusty labs of a Derbyshire University, where I, Alex, spent my days testing fabric – the kind that makes a great pink tutu, actually.
But beneath the lab coat was a dancer yearning to come alive. The university ballet club was where it all began! A chance to slip into a tutu for a charity event made me fall in love with this whimsical world. And the rest, as they say, is history. I'm Alex by day, and Pink Tutu Sparkles, a name that's quite literally close to my heart, by night.
I'm passionate about sharing my love of dance and beauty, especially with children. It's incredible to watch young minds spark with inspiration! I even take time out to visit local ballet schools, sometimes even teaching ballet class myself. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing young talents grow and flourish!
And of course, no drag queen is complete without a collection of glittering accessories. It’s an obsession, I admit, but one that is filled with such delightful wonders. My jewellery box brims with sparkling gems and trinkets, and my shoe collection – well, you can’t even fit all those beauties in a normal wardrobe, darlings.
My favourite find this week was a vintage pearl necklace. Oh, you wouldn't believe the sparkle on it! It’s an absolute treasure and adds the perfect touch of old-school elegance to any of my costumes!
Sharing the Tutu Magic
I know some of you are wondering what drives me to share my love for tutus and my experiences on my blog every single day. It’s about more than just spreading glittery joy (although, honestly, isn’t that a lovely enough mission already?)!
I believe that expressing yourself freely is what makes life extraordinary. Wearing a tutu is all about breaking out of the ordinary, about feeling fabulous and confident! We’re not all meant to be scientists or engineers or accountants, darlings. We're meant to twirl!
Don't get me wrong. Being Alex by day is very important. It grounds me, provides for me, and, yes, sometimes a scientist’s life can get very… well… beige! But Pink Tutu Sparkles? She's the magic that makes me feel completely and utterly alive. And if sharing a little sparkle with the world makes one person embrace their own sense of joy and individuality, then it’s a mission worth pursuing.
