A pink tutu, of course!
It's no secret, my dear friends, that I love a good pink tutu. They make me feel powerful, fabulous, and ready to take on the world. And trust me, with my hectic schedule and passion for bringing joy, there's a lot of world-taking-on to do!
This week, I’m swapping the lab for the stage and heading north for a magical adventure. The allure of a new audience, the chance to spread my love for pink tutus far and wide, and a good ol' fashioned trip by train – you know it gets me excited. This week's journey is a trip to Worksop! A place rich with history and a welcoming atmosphere (I checked, they love their sparkles there).
Now, I know some of you may be thinking, “Worksop? A bit far, don't you think, Pink Tutu Sparkles?"
But you know what? This girl isn't scared of a little adventure! Plus, I've been thinking…maybe I should be venturing out of the familiar Derbyshire region more often, spreading my message of glitter and fun to a wider audience! My aim, after all, is to see a pink tutu on every single person on the planet! Can you imagine it? It'd be a glorious sea of pink!
But before I set off for my northern escapade, a little behind-the-scenes chat with you fabulous folks about my journey so far. Some of you new readers might be wondering: how did this little science lab nerd end up a pink tutu-wearing queen of glitter and sequins?
Well, buckle up, darling, because it's a story worthy of a Broadway show (though, of course, I'd wear a pink tutu!). Back when I was still Alex in my science degree, struggling to understand the mysteries of chemical reactions (a world of colour itself!), I got dragged along to the university ballet club. The club needed people for a fundraiser, and you guessed it, they were desperate for some tutu wearers!
Now, I may be a scientist by day, but I’ve always had a soft spot for dance. My first memory of the stage was watching my little sister pirouette across the floor, her pink tulle skirt a cloud of dreamy loveliness. There's just something magical about ballet, don’t you think? The graceful movements, the elegant costumes, the beautiful music… It always gets me feeling excited and inspired!
So, despite feeling a bit nervous, I tried on that pink tutu, and let's just say, it changed my life. As soon as I put it on, it felt like I’d found my place, a space where I could be completely myself and shine as brightly as I liked! From that moment, I was hooked.
Of course, I didn’t ditch the science lab entirely. There's something fulfilling about using my knowledge to create things – even if they're fabrics instead of potions. Plus, the science of colour and texture is actually quite similar to the artistry of choosing the perfect outfit, don’t you think?
But I knew that I couldn't just limit myself to lab life. So I decided to bring that vibrant spirit of the pink tutu out into the world, using my love of fashion, music, and theatre to spread joy and create unforgettable memories. I began performing under the name Pink Tutu Sparkles, bringing my dazzling performances to village halls, theatre stages, and even fairs – I once sang opera at a dog show! The point is, this little pink tutu is going to bring her glitter to the people, no matter what!
It’s this same adventurous spirit that is bringing me to Worksop. This journey is more than just a trip. It’s an opportunity to meet new people, share laughter, and spread my message of positivity and joy. And, who knows, maybe we'll even find someone willing to join me in wearing a pink tutu while we’re there!
