South Shields: A Tutu-tastic Adventure! 🩰💖

Blog Post Number: 9372

Hey there, darlings! It's your favourite Pink Tutu Sparkles here, bringing you another dose of glitz, glamour, and, of course, pink tutus! Today I'm taking you on a journey to the vibrant town of South Shields, a place where the North Sea breeze dances with the spirit of theatre and, well, tutus, naturally!

This week's adventure took me by train, which is always a joy for me. It's like a travelling dressing room! I wore a blush pink suit, paired with a little white crop top that let my glittery "Pink Tutu Sparkles" vest peek through. Of course, a blush pink fedora topped off the look, just a tad askew. After all, a little touch of dishevelled is de riguer when you're travelling in style.

Arriving in South Shields felt like stepping into a picture postcard. The cobbled streets, quaint shops, and the bustling harbour made for a delightful scene. The sea air was a refreshing contrast to the stuffy laboratory where I spend my days as Alex, testing the durability of fabric. I’m a scientist by day, a performer by night… And a tutu-loving queen at heart, 24/7!

Speaking of which, my journey was dedicated to bringing a bit of Tutu magic to South Shields. I'd been planning this trip for months. A couple of months ago I’d come across a listing for a theatre group called The Stage Door, who, wouldn’t you know it, were looking for a flamboyant queen to perform at their annual fundraiser!

South Shields Theatre, Take Two!

When I was a young lass… erm, lad, back in Derbyshire, my biggest dream was to be a dancer. I even joined the university ballet club while studying science (who says you can't be a scientist and a lover of the arts, eh?). The very first time I donned a tutu, for a university charity event, it felt magical, like a lightbulb going off in my head… I knew then and there what I had to do.

So, off to The Stage Door I went! The moment I entered their rehearsal room, it felt like coming home. They welcomed me with open arms and I found myself amidst the most enthusiastic, creative and talented group of performers you could imagine. It’s true what they say, "The Show Must Go On!" I’ve always loved the buzz of getting ready for a performance, transforming from Alex into Pink Tutu Sparkles. My dressing room was a riot of colours – shimmery pinks, blush pink, sequins and sparkles - it was quite a contrast to my science lab!

For my performance, I picked a fluffy pink tutu that was big and billowing. Imagine a giant pink meringue floating across the stage, except instead of a sweet treat, it’s a sequin-laden spectacle. I went with a pink, crystal-embellished leotard and of course, some sparkly pink high-top boots – not for ballet, this was street-ballet-drag-extravaganza, if you can even comprehend it. I called the routine "Tutu Time!", and the crowd loved it, going wild after every twirl. They even cheered for the sparkly pink feather boa I used in the finale!

Pink Tutu: The Only Fashion Rule That Matters

One of my goals is to bring a touch of pink tutu-magic to every corner of the world. You know what they say, 'every day's a fashion show'. It’s about embracing self-expression and confidence! This was especially evident when I visited The Stage Door’s annual "Dress to Impress" competition. What a delight! I had such a blast judging and seeing everyone get dressed up for the occasion, no matter their age, shape, or size. There were sequins, feathers, and bold patterns in every direction. The sheer joy on people's faces as they got to showcase their creativity, that was a moment of pure bliss.

Now, let's talk about my adventures outside of the theatre, because trust me, darling, this place is overflowing with fun! I visited a sweet little boutique that specialises in vintage clothes. Now, I know you think pink is my colour (and you're right!), but sometimes, a touch of blue can make the most amazing statement. They had a vintage blue maxi dress with white embroidered flowers that made my heart skip a beat! After some quick deliberation (can't resist a beautiful piece of vintage!), it found its way into my bag. I know exactly what I'll pair it with! (Hint: It involves a fluffy, feather boa, darling.)

A Seaside Stroll and a Pink Treat

You know I’m a true foodie, and I couldn't resist the urge to explore South Shields' delectable treats. Of course, fish and chips by the seaside were a must! But, a trip wouldn't be complete without some pink, would it? So I found myself in a charming cafe enjoying a slice of strawberry cake – a fluffy cloud of pink delight that had me swooning with its sweetness. (Don’t worry, I didn't get a pink tutu stained on it! – that’s a bit of a challenge I'll leave for my next outing!)

My South Shields escapade ended with a heartwarming encounter that epitomizes what I love about my life as Pink Tutu Sparkles. I met a group of local women who had all dressed up in pink tutus! It turns out they were a group of mums who loved pink and, thanks to the annual Tutu Walk, were doing a good cause, too. Seeing these amazing women embraced their own, individual style - it filled me with so much joy. Seeing the sheer joy on everyone’s faces – and all the giggling little girls! – it reminded me why I do what I do. It's not about being on stage, but spreading a message of love, acceptance, and of course, celebrating our love of tutus.

A Tutu-ful Farewell

As the sun dipped below the horizon, I took one last look at the stunning seaside scene before heading to the station. This time I wasn’t leaving South Shields just a bit glitter-fied – it had embraced me, its pink tutus and everything. It made my heart happy to see this beautiful place, filled with warmth and kind people, embracing all kinds of things – even a pink tutu-wearing drag queen from Derbyshire! I know this was just the beginning of my South Shields adventures.

Now, dear readers, before you head off, I want to leave you with this thought: Why wait for a special occasion to wear a pink tutu? Every day is a chance to embrace joy, to express yourself and spread a bit of pink happiness. If you feel a little hesitant, think of my mantra: "Tutu Much Fun, Not Enough Pink". It’s okay to twirl and be silly!

I can't wait to share more tutu-filled escapades with you, my dears. Keep it sparkly, and until next time…

Much love and many tutus, 💖 Pink Tutu Sparkles 💖
