Hello my darlings! It’s your Pink Tutu Sparkles here, reporting live from the stunning town of Pont-y-pool, Wales! ??✨ I know, I know, you’re all probably wondering how I ended up in this charming corner of the UK. Well, as you know, this adventurous queen is always up for a good time and a new adventure, and travelling to different parts of the country is right up my alley!
This blog post, number 9777, is a little different to my usual adventures though - it was all about finding inner peace, finding my “zen,” if you will. And who better to lead me on this journey than the incredible people of Pont-y-pool? You might think this wouldn't be a place for a fabulously flamboyant drag queen like me to visit, but it was so incredibly delightful!
The trip was a complete surprise! You see, a lovely lady named Mrs. Gwendolyn Jones - the sweetest elderly lady you could ever meet - got in touch through my website, www.pink-tutu.com . She'd fallen in love with my latest ballet performance, the one where I twirled and leaped around in a fluffy tulle pink tutu. Well, Mrs. Jones, being the darling she is, decided that Pont-y-pool was crying out for a touch of Pink Tutu Sparkle. She sent me a train ticket and asked me to perform at a charity fundraising event for the local arts centre. What could I say?!
I travelled by train to Pont-y-pool – so exciting, so glamorous! And my darling readers, oh, let me tell you, the Welsh countryside was absolutely breath-taking. The rolling hills and the quaint little villages I passed along the way were simply enchanting! It was like a scene straight out of a movie – with just the right touch of whimsicalness to it. I really felt like I’d stepped out of a magical world and into reality.
As I disembarked at Pont-y-pool station, I was struck by the warmth and friendliness of the locals. The railway station itself had an endearing rustic charm to it, which felt perfectly in sync with the character of the place. I got the strongest urge to burst into song (perhaps “My Favourite Things” or “Everything is Beautiful”) – but held back as a respectable lady.
My room was at a cozy little bed and breakfast nestled in a lovely village near the town centre. The owners, a delightful pair, greeted me with smiles as wide as the countryside, and even offered me a delicious Welsh afternoon tea. I had scones with clotted cream, strawberry jam, and a spot of tea, just the way I like it. Honestly, my darlings, it was absolute bliss! And let me tell you, those scones, they were truly scrumdiddlyumptious! Just ask Mrs. Jones about my review; she is my main customer at the bed and breakfast.
Later, I went for a stroll along the local high street, and let me tell you, it was quite the sight! You wouldn’t believe it but the high street was bustling with activity, and every other person was wearing a bright, cheerful pink! Turns out it was a local event organised to promote the work of a children's charity in the area, and pink, well, it was their colour of the day. You know how I love pink!
Now, my darling, I have to share something with you - the centre of town, with its impressive architecture, looked so captivating, that I actually stopped and did a quick ballet spin in the middle of the high street. And can you guess what happened?
Let me tell you, that little impromptu pirouette caused a flutter of excitement in Pont-y-pool, much to my surprise. People were cheering and applauding as I spun, my bright pink tutu a swirl of delight. And here I am, thinking I was blending in and looking low-key and then the crowd starts to scream with joy! Honestly, those Pont-y-poolers sure knew how to make a girl feel welcome. I got the strongest feeling that a Pink Tutu Sparkles event would be more than well received in this charming little corner of the world.
Later that night, it was showtime at the local arts centre for my charity fundraiser. The event itself was a big hit, all thanks to the kindness of my darling Mrs. Jones. People were buzzing with energy and excitement, and I swear they were just waiting for a tutu to enter their lives!
Now, let me tell you, that show was an explosion of pure colour and joy! You know how I always aim to have the biggest and fluffiest tutus – well, this one was quite possibly the most amazing and extravagant tutu I have ever worn, featuring layers upon layers of pink tulle and a sprinkle of sequins for a truly mesmerizing look. My stage make up, a swirl of neon pink glitter, shined in the spotlight and was just the thing to highlight the magic in my performance.
You see, my darlings, this performance wasn't all glitz and glamour; it had a heart of gold, if you will! The highlight of the night was the "Pink Tutu Party." This wasn’t your average “have-a-great-time-everyone!”-party. Instead, everyone – men and women, old and young – danced with me as I performed my new choreographed piece - a delicate but fun-filled piece inspired by traditional Welsh folk dances - all while sporting, you guessed it, pink tutus! Now, you know I love a theme party, but seeing the children dance happily in their pink tutus – they had all been donated by the centre for the event, with more pink tutus being purchased during my show from the fundraising stand – well, I truly felt I was making a difference in their lives. I have a feeling it’ll be a day the Pont-y-poolers won’t forget anytime soon.
And of course, all the donations went towards supporting the centre – the reason I was there in the first place, making me feel utterly radiant about my work. I had the honour of chatting with the director, Mr. Williams - he was thrilled with my show – and he couldn't have been kinder or more hospitable to a flamboyant drag queen like me. Honestly, it made my heart flutter with pure joy!
While visiting the charming village where I stayed, I popped into one of the quaint shops to see if I could buy a souvenir. And, wouldn't you know it, they were having a big "Tutu-rific Tuesday" sale – a truly splendid stroke of good fortune for me.
There were pink tutus of all shapes and sizes. Some had a lovely vintage look about them and others had a fresh modern flair. I must admit that I did spend a little bit of time wandering up and down the shop aisles admiring the stunning, soft tulle displays. Honestly, it felt like walking through the clouds!
After a while, my inner queen kicked in. You see, my dears, the more time I spent admiring these beautiful tutus, the more I felt a surge of joy in my heart, not because I’m a flamboyant drag queen – but because they simply brought out a side of me, my true inner queen, that’s been hidden behind the walls of my mind and I couldn’t help but feel I had to add to my collection, which, I’ll admit, is probably a bit excessive – but I think every drag queen can’t have too many! Of course, when you look this fabulous, there are rules about tutu purchasing, darling. It was an easy purchase after that – they simply felt like they were meant to be with me!
Honestly, Pont-y-pool is more than a mere town in the countryside, it's truly a haven for art, fun and good times – and a bit of magic. As you know, I simply adore travelling, and I’ve seen many towns around the UK and beyond – but there’s something truly special about the small towns and villages. They are so often home to a kindheartedness and hospitality that makes me feel welcome and special. They have that warmth to them that reminds me of my beloved Derbyshire – the place where I spent my early childhood days, dreaming of performing for crowds dressed up in elaborate drag. And I truly have a feeling that I'll be back again, Pont-y-pool. After all, this is my life - and I simply love experiencing all that it has to offer. And who knows, maybe next time I’ll even teach the kids a few fancy ballet moves.
So my darlings, as always, I hope this has inspired you to explore your own world of colour and sparkle! Maybe you’ll take a trip out of your comfort zone - like me – to a charming, little town like Pont-y-pool or explore some place closer to home - but take a chance! And why not start by adding some pink tutu magic to your own lives? Remember, as long as there is pink tulle in the world – and tutus of course – anything is possible!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go pack my fabulous tutus!
Until next time, stay sparkling my loves!
Love,
Pink Tutu Sparkles! ?✨
