Now, you all know I adore a good train journey, and this one was no exception. Chugging along the Kent countryside, watching the fields whizz by, all whilst feeling like a human pink meringue in my latest fuchsia tulle masterpiece – what could be more divine?
Folkestone greeted me with a breath of salty air and a smile as wide as the English Channel. This town, with its charming cobblestone streets and quirky boutiques, instantly stole my heart. I felt like I'd stepped into a fairytale, especially as I twirled my way through the historic Old Town, my pink tutu swishing like a cheerful symphony! ?
My first stop, of course, was the lovely Folkestone Leas. The view from the clifftop was breathtaking, all rolling green hills meeting the azure sea, just begging for a perfectly timed photo-op. I mean, come on, how could I resist a portrait with the white cliffs as my backdrop? I can already imagine it gracing the cover of my upcoming 'Tutu Travel Tales' book! (Yes, you heard that right – a book is in the works! Pinch yourselves, darlings!) ?
After basking in the sunshine and soaking up the scenic views, it was time to indulge in the town's vibrant artistic scene. I couldn't resist a trip to the wonderfully theatrical "The Quarterhouse" theatre. Oh, the stories! Oh, the costumes! You all know I live for a good drama, and I must say, the local performers here really know how to bring a play to life. It even had a small bit of ballet – my heart soared with delight!
Naturally, no trip to Folkestone is complete without exploring its incredible shops. You know I'm a queen who lives for a good retail therapy session, and this seaside town did not disappoint. I found the most gorgeous vintage hat shop – the kind with bonnets, fascinators, and even a stunning collection of feathered fascinators. You better believe I strutted out with a new feather creation to adorn my crown of glory. I also snagged a magnificent pink satin ribbon – my latest purchase for my ever-growing tutu collection! ?
But no trip is truly complete without some delectable local treats. Now, you might be wondering, what could a queen who wears pink tutus love more than, well, pink tutus? The answer, my dears, is CREAM TEAS! And Folkestone did not disappoint. From delicately sliced finger sandwiches to scones that melted in my mouth, my taste buds went on a delightful adventure. And of course, there were bottomless cups of fragrant Earl Grey tea. This queen needs her caffeine fix, and nothing complements a pink tutu quite like a cup of perfectly brewed tea! ☕️
I even found time to brush up on my ballet skills, because this queen loves her pirouettes and grand jetés! It was a bit of a struggle getting those sparkly heels through the door of the lovely Folkestone Dance Centre – I mean, who knew ballet studios could be so strict? But the moment my feet touched that sprung floor, I was home. After a bit of pliés and tendu – let's just say, even the most experienced dancers might have thought my pirouettes were a little extra, a lot sparkly, but utterly divine. ?
By now, I’m exhausted, my sweet darlings, but it was a beautiful exhaustion – the kind that makes your soul sing and your spirit soar. And speaking of singing… my final stop was a lovely music pub with a live band, where I unleashed my inner rocker queen with some seriously fabulous dancing. I mean, you have to agree that even pink tutus can rock out, right? It was a glorious evening of live music, and a great way to end my whirlwind journey. ??
