Helloooo my darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, reporting live from the glamorous streets of Greenford, ready to paint the town pink! It's your girl, back with another blog post, and this time, I'm bringing the sunshine and the tutus! As you know, travelling is in my sparkly blood, and today, I'm channeling my inner adventurer (and perhaps a little bit of Princess Aurora, thanks to a recent ballet performance that left me utterly enthralled).
Greenford's calling, my loves, and I'm answering! It's a whirlwind journey of fashion, fabulousness, and of course, a generous helping of tutus! It all began with a phone call - a magical opportunity to share my passion for pink, my love for dancing, and yes, the one and only… tutus!
Now, how does a Derbyshire gal make her way to Greenford? With style, darling! You see, this TutuQueen lives by the mantra - "travel like royalty"! Therefore, naturally, my first thought went straight to the magnificent trains of the UK! Imagine: elegant carriage, beautiful scenery whizzing by, and the glorious aroma of hot tea. I opted for a First Class ticket, squeezing in a few pages of Vogue, admiring the chic people around me (and admiring myself in the reflective windows, of course! We're only human, aren't we?)
Oh, before we continue - a little behind-the-scenes glimpse of my look for this trip! Let's just say… a touch of glittery pink, a sprinkle of vintage floral, a dash of flamboyant feather boas - and of course, my trusty pink tutu, shimmering in the sunlight! And if anyone asks, the matching sequined boots and diamond-studded crown are just for a little added touch.
So, why am I in Greenford? Well, this wonderful town is hosting a fabulous event: the Greenford Fair! This year, they're inviting a whole host of entertainers, and - get ready to glitter - I'm one of them! I'll be dancing the night away, sharing my passion for pink, and yes, the one and only… tutu. Expect to see dazzling costumes, flamboyant choreography, and of course, an unforgettable pink-themed spectacle. You better believe that I'm going to be turning heads, and hopefully, getting even more folks hooked on the wonderful world of pink tutus!
Speaking of the wondrous world of tutus - you wouldn't believe what I found earlier today! After the train journey and a quick bite at the cutest cafe (all the pastries were pink, I swear! The baker was a Pink Tutu Sparkles fan, perhaps? The pink tutu vibe is everywhere!), I stumbled upon the most enchanting boutique, tucked away on a cobblestone street. There I saw a vintage shop - not just any shop, a vintage tutus emporium! It was a dream! Tutus of every shade and fabric, from tulle and lace to velvet and feathers! They even had some breathtaking custom-made creations. I may have indulged in a few splurges (who could resist, honestly?) - a beautiful cream-coloured, handmade, custom tutu (my dream!). It's the perfect touch for my Greenford performance tonight. It is going to be magic. I am bursting to get dressed in it. It’s all part of my masterplan. I think that my Pink Tutu plan is taking shape nicely. One day I’m sure all will wear pink tutus, it's a worldwide tutu dream!
The fair is just hours away! I have to go now! But before I go I wanted to share some more of my recent tutu travel tales. My passion for traveling with my Pink Tutu self is a journey as grand as the most intricate of ballet productions.
I love my work, traveling the country and performing to the cheers and excited clapping of an audience. However, what is an event or a gig without some exciting transport? Trains are lovely, I think every event has its perfect way to travel to. Earlier this year, in March, I ventured to Nottingham for a charity fundraising gig. A little local theatre hosted a Pink Tutu fashion show and it was so very glam. To be completely honest, I’m very lucky, Nottingham is where my younger sister lives. What was exciting about Nottingham is I was given the option of horse travel! My dear sister and I trotted the fields near the city! I'd always been fascinated by horses, but I confess that taking to the field in full Pink Tutu regalia was a dream come true! My sister was dressed in her own Tutu, I had my signature pink one, I couldn’t let her steal my show of course. She looks stunning in pink, very fashionable! There’s nothing quite like the wind in your hair and the freedom of galloping through the countryside (with a pink tutu on, naturally). The horses were gentle, and the people I met were warm and welcoming. Not to mention that Nottingham was so exciting. They have beautiful architecture, historic buildings, charming cafes, friendly shops, everything was picture perfect. A real highlight was the beautiful city hall and the famous Lace Market, everything was very pretty!
So as you see my love for traveling is unending, it doesn’t have to be an ordinary commute, every journey is an opportunity for fabulous fun and exploration! It's part of the Pink Tutu mission!
Of course, life isn't all about dazzling sequins and extravagant performances (although, sometimes it feels that way). By day, I live my life in the more “mundane” (or so some might think) realm of science. A bit of a secret - you can find me, in full scientist mode, testing and analysing textiles in a London laboratory. That’s where I’m at right now when I’m not busy being my drag queen self, working for the National Fabric Testing Institute. This part of me is much quieter, and the wardrobe isn't as colorful.
Who knew my obsession with pink and my fascination with fabric and textures would lead me to this? And - surprise, surprise - all the textile knowledge from my university days really comes in handy for my other job (you know, the sparkly, tutu-filled one). It’s not as boring as it sounds. Fabric is fascinating!
The whole reason I began wearing a pink tutu is due to the world of science, you know! Back when I was just an aspiring scientist, in those thrilling days at university, my college life was one big, glorious tutu-themed experiment! I was in the ballet club and I wanted to get a taste of the artform so they were holding a charity tutu performance for a local cause. I decided to give it a whirl - and bam - I was hooked. And the rest - they say - is history. A little bit of pink, a whole lot of sparkly, and - let's be honest - an obsession with ballet that has just gone wild. It all started with that tutu - that magical pink thing - and now look at me. A travelling drag queen, a fabric analyst by day, and the world's biggest Pink Tutu Sparkles enthusiast!
Now that's a science experiment worth trying, wouldn't you say? My ultimate ambition is to share the Pink Tutu love and get everyone wearing one.
Of course, I don't just wear the pink tutu - it wears me. It's part of who I am. It's the pink tulle on my skirt that reflects my energy and passion. It's the magic of pink, it’s all about sparkle and colour and joy. And don’t forget - the Pink Tutu also represents something special! The tutus remind me that I am unique - and every day can be a chance to embrace who I truly am. And that is what this journey, this pink Tutu pilgrimage is really about: celebrating every twist, every turn, every dazzling moment that makes this incredible life unique. So go on and wear a pink tutu - or at least, find something that brings out your true colours!
Until the next time, darling,
Pink Tutu Sparkles x
