Hello, darlings! It's your fabulous Tutu Queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, and I'm so excited to share with you the magic of my latest trip - to the lovely town of Castleford! As you all know, this little Tutu Queen simply has to get on a train and discover new adventures, new venues, new stages... and new audiences to spread the love of the pink tutu!
Now, this journey had a certain extra special sprinkle of sparkle. It's all because Castleford is nestled in the heart of Yorkshire, a place close to my Derbyshire heart. My grand-nan always spoke fondly of her childhood in the Yorkshire Dales, and even though I was brought up in a little Derbyshire village surrounded by sheep and cows (and an excellent butcher who makes the most heavenly sausage rolls!), there’s something about the Yorkshire landscape that draws me in.
Of course, a train journey in my iconic, perfectly-pink tutu is always a hoot. I met the loveliest chap called Bertie at the station – apparently, he’d just travelled back from a week at Glastonbury Festival and had brought his pink sparkly tie for his journey! It turns out Bertie used to work at a costume shop in London - the whole time, he just couldn’t stop gushing about the amount of gorgeous tutus they had! It’s so nice to chat to folks who share a love for all things tutu. The power of pink sparkles is indeed mighty!
We swapped tales about festivals, costumes, and, of course, tutus for the whole journey. By the time the train pulled into Castleford, I had a whole new bestie to add to my sparkly social circle! What a fab start to the day!
Tutu Dreams at Castleford Castle
My first stop in Castleford? The iconic Castleford Castle! Built in the 12th century, it was a place of immense historical importance in its time – and, well, just look at its impressive exterior! Imagine those stone walls whispering secrets from centuries ago… Imagine how many amazing people have crossed its thresholds throughout history… sigh * Just let a girl dream…*
To say I felt inspired was an understatement. There’s something truly magical about feeling connected to such a deep sense of history – I find it all so wonderfully stimulating. I simply couldn’t resist letting out a few poses amongst the medieval grandeur… let’s just say the historical significance of my visit may just be forever cemented in Castleford’s future, ha ha! I may be a modern Tutu Queen, but there's something timeless about the art of fabulousness!
Tutu Tales in a Theatre Town
The good folks at Castleford’s very own Xscape Theatre were unbelievably kind. They were all so thrilled about having a pink-tutu-wearing drag queen performing in their venue. I performed my signature piece, "The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" – a fab mix of ballet and sass, it had the whole audience chanting "More! More!" by the end. And let me tell you, my Tutu Queens, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of hearing an audience roar with applause! So satisfying, *sniffles, my darling tutus!*
Of course, a visit to Castleford had to include a little backstage exploration at the theatre. Oh, the glorious dressing rooms! And the costume racks – bursting with exquisite fabrics and creations that would make even the most flamboyant bird envious! The whole atmosphere was pure theatrical magic. I couldn't help but think that it's moments like these, surrounded by beauty and talent, that remind me how fortunate I am to be pursuing my passions and dreams!
Tutu Treat in a Yorkshire Tea Shop
Speaking of beauty… my adventures didn't stop there! You just have to know, darling, that one simply can’t leave Yorkshire without enjoying a quintessentially British experience. That means tea, scones, and, well… lots of cake!
There was a cute little tea shop tucked away in a charming street off the main road - "The Pink Whisk". (Yes, I know, right?! Sometimes the Universe just knows when to make your dreams come true!). It was decorated like an elegant fairy's dream – oh, the adorable floral patterns on the wallpaper! My favorite color – pink, of course. The kind lady behind the counter brought me my scone with clotted cream (which, ahem, is, I believe, from my homeland – Derbyshire!). I swear, she actually whispered the words, "A taste of heaven" before placing it in front of me. So posh!
It was utterly divine… and I even had the chance to talk with some local Castleford ladies, learning all about their favourite ballet shows! One lady actually admitted to wearing her ballet shoes when walking the dog in the morning (just to practice those perfect turnout positions, ha!). Who knew my love for ballet had so much common ground in this charming Yorkshire town! I felt all kinds of happy-tutus that day.
A Tutu Twist on Fashion Shopping
Now, we all know, I’m an avid clothes-lover! There was just one place in Castleford I simply had to visit… "Threads of Time." They've got everything, from antique lace to modern sequins... oh, heaven! And they just happen to carry the most exquisite vintage pieces you could imagine!
Of course, I was hoping for a vintage tutu! Well, guess what, my darlings? It really happened! They’d just received a gorgeous pale pink tulle ballerina costume! It’s a tiny bit more classic and delicate than my regular creations. This one actually has hand-sewn beadwork around the bottom. I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures of this one in the future, you’ll have to stay tuned for more!
After shopping for all sorts of stunning vintage bits and pieces, it was time for one last peek at the magic of this little Yorkshire town. I discovered a hidden courtyard overflowing with flowerbeds – it had this beautiful sense of calm and serenity. There’s nothing quite like seeing a community's heart shining through such loveliness.
Pink Tutu Sparkles Bids Farewell… For Now!
The day wrapped up with me thanking my amazing Yorkshire audience. You were the best, Castleford! My travels took me on a train, led me to a grand historical building, let me showcase my talent in an enchanting theatre, and even gave me an excuse to have afternoon tea – the epitome of perfect pinkness!
So, Castleford, until our next rendezvous... I'm certain that the path of the Tutu Queen is one that'll return to this special part of Yorkshire.
