Melton Mowbray - A Pink Tutu Paradise! ??

Hello darlings! It's your favourite Pink Tutu Sparkles here, ready to spill the tea on my latest adventure, bringing a sprinkle of magic to the charming town of Melton Mowbray. This is blog post number 10042, so thank you for joining me on my daily journey into the wonderful world of pink tutus. Let's get started, shall we?

My latest escapade has whisked me away from the bustle of Derbyshire to the picturesque county of Leicestershire, where I boarded a majestic steam train, puffing out clouds of excitement along with steam, all for a delightful afternoon of glitter and grace in Melton Mowbray. Honestly, who needs the motorway when you can have a ride through rolling hills on a vintage train?

I know what you're thinking. A pink tutu wearing queen in Melton Mowbray, surely there’s nothing pink, or sparkly, or glamorous? Well, darling, you'd be wrong! I have it on good authority that this town is full of delights. It has everything! The bustling market is the place to find the perfect vintage brooch to match my tutu, while the beautiful boutiques offer exquisite fabrics fit for a Pink Tutu Sparkles ensemble. I even hear that their cheese market is worth a detour, but frankly, I can’t resist a slice of that pink fondant cake I saw at a lovely bakery! ?

It was, as always, a thrill to bring the spark of Pink Tutu Sparkles to this quaint town. From the minute I arrived at the stage, I could sense the infectious energy of the audience. The entire atmosphere was so full of joyous anticipation - it truly made me feel like I was at a fabulous ballet performance. And what’s a Pink Tutu Sparkles show without a touch of the theatrical? The lights went down, the music soared, and I twirled my way into the heart of everyone there.

I can still feel the laughter, hear the cheers, and smell the warm applause as my routines came to life. Honestly, there is nothing more rewarding than the pure joy on people’s faces when they see a pink tutu whirling on stage!

After the show, the venue was overflowing with lovely ladies and gentlemen eager for a selfie and a little Pink Tutu Sparkle magic! It was fantastic. I took pictures with young children who twirled around with joy in their tutus, families enjoying the vibrant performance, and a few grown men, secretly living out their ballet fantasies, who embraced me as if I were their fairy godmother. (A little more about this last one… a bit too enthusiastic if you ask me!)

And if that wasn't enough, a darling local shopkeeper brought me a box of delicious pink marshmallows, claiming they were my favourite, though I assure you I’ve never seen these in Derbyshire! He’d clearly been doing his homework! The delightful touch to my day was beyond anything I could have expected. It really cemented the spirit of warm community here in Melton Mowbray.

But before we delve into more memories from my fabulous journey, let's pause and give a little pink appreciation to my journey to Melton Mowbray.

It’s no secret that I love to travel. You might have seen my posts about my trips to places like Oxford, Chester, Brighton, and Edinburgh, each offering a new adventure, new people, and new experiences to share. Of course, there’s something special about travelling with a pink tutu in tow. Imagine it:

  • Stepping onto the gleaming platform at London King’s Cross with a perfectly coordinated luggage trolley - my suitcase matched my latest tutu!

  • The joy of watching the countryside roll past my window on the train, my pink feathers flitting playfully in the wind. (Don’t worry, I did hold onto my headpiece, a real queen never loses her headwear!)

  • Or arriving in a small village, bringing a burst of bright pink against the muted tones of the cobblestone streets and centuries old architecture, leaving a trail of giggles and amazement in my wake.

You see, being a pink tutu wearing drag queen, is much more than wearing a colourful piece of clothing. It's about making people smile, adding a dash of joy and a little bit of magic to every situation. And believe me, darling, even the staunchest traditionalists melt at the sight of a shimmering pink tutu!

This whole drag journey has been incredible! But it hasn't always been pink and glittery, of course. In the very beginning, when I first put on my pink tutu, I wasn’t always so confident. In fact, I remember those early days with a blush. My journey started in university, I was studying Chemistry back then, surrounded by beakers and chemical reactions. It's certainly not what you picture as the birthplace of a drag queen, is it?

But then came the University Ball. We had a charity event raising funds for the Children's Ward, and they had a stall selling colourful tutus, as you do. Now, normally I would be the last one to even consider trying something like that - let's be real, the average science student is not known for their flamboyance! - but something just pulled me in. It felt… freeing. The moment that delicate fabric floated around me, it felt right. I don't know what it was, the rush of excitement, the colourful silks and sashes, or perhaps the feeling of pure joy. Whatever it was, that moment hooked me! The scientist, who just a few hours earlier was testing fabric for strength and durability, had a newfound appreciation for a shimmering tulle skirt! It was almost like a chemical reaction, that moment of discovery and pure exhilaration, it all happened in a flash.

I’ll admit, I still loved my Chemistry degree, and now, with my background in lab analysis, I can even analyse and test fabrics for all those wonderful designers and costume makers - what a great blend of passions! But that evening at the University Ball lit a spark in me, a sparkle so vibrant it lit up my world with pink.

By night I began practicing my new routines and moves in front of the bathroom mirror in my little flat. After a few weeks, the spark of the ball evolved into a whole flame! I put together a whole drag persona - “Pink Tutu Sparkles" - my perfect expression of my passion for dance, beauty, and, of course, tutus! From there, I began performing for smaller local gatherings - coffee shops, pubs, community centres, anywhere I could spread a little pink tutu love!

This wasn't always smooth sailing. Let’s face it, darling, it’s hard being a drag queen - there’s a certain nerve needed, especially at first. Sometimes, people would look at me oddly or, let’s be real, sometimes, people weren’t very accepting, at least not at first.

But as they say, you’ve got to crack an egg to make an omelette. You can’t just be a drag queen, darling, you’ve got to be a Pink Tutu Sparkles drag queen - fearless and glamorous, embracing every opportunity with a twinkle in your eye.

My travels have been so incredibly varied - from grand theatre productions and dazzling outdoor fairs, to quirky café nights and quiet pub performances, even, once, a birthday party in a barn in rural Yorkshire! Each time, I learn more, develop new skills and learn more about myself as a drag artist and performer. Every performance is an adventure and an opportunity to express my love of dance and beauty.

And you know what else I love? Seeing all of you beautiful people! Every face at a show, each “oh wow!” and every selfie, means the world. My community has been incredibly welcoming - you can’t beat a group of wonderful, supportive, fellow drag lovers, whether it’s watching them perform on stage or just sipping cocktails after a fabulous performance!

But if you think I’m only about performing and touring, then my darling, you haven't been paying attention. There’s another big side to my pink world…

You see, I believe in the power of pink, and I’m spreading the message that we all have our own inner pink tutu sparkle, waiting to come out! If you’re feeling a little bit drab, or a little bit shy, why not don a pink tutu? Let that inner sparkle out! There is no greater empowerment than feeling confident and comfortable in your own skin.

Now, to continue the mission! My journey takes me on to Nottingham next. I hear they have the most incredible vintage costume shops. What better place to find the perfect addition to my already fabulous wardrobe?

I can't wait to share more adventures with you. Be sure to visit www.pink-tutu.com daily, so you can catch my next post! Until then, darlings, remember to always stay sparkly, wear your tutu proudly, and always embrace the magic that a little bit of pink can bring.

Love always,

Pink Tutu Sparkles ?
