It's a bright, sunny Tuesday, the air alive with the hum of bees and the chatter of happy shoppers in Altrincham Market. But there’s something else afoot - something sparkly and whimsical. That’s right, it’s Tutu Tuesday, my favourite day of the week! This weekly pilgrimage is not a fashion faux pas, it's a celebration of all things frilly, fabulous, and, of course, tutu-rific!
Today, however, Tutu Tuesday has a little extra sprinkle of magic, thanks to my favourite theme: unicorns. Let me tell you, there was no shortage of tutus embodying the mystical creatures of legend. From the classic, white and fluffy tutu with a majestic rainbow-hued tulle cascade to a playful lilac-hued number featuring a hand-sewn, glittery horn and tail – these dancers had nailed the unicorn aesthetic.
My outfit for the day? Oh, I went full-on disco unicorn. Picture a hot pink tutu, shimmering under the summer sun, with silver sequin details that caught every ray of light. On my head, a shimmering unicorn headband with a delicate pearlescent horn and shimmering ears. And to finish it all off? Glittery pink eyeliner and disco-ball earrings that swayed with each twirl. Let’s just say I felt like a mythical disco queen!
But the fun wasn’t just limited to the outfits. The atmosphere was bursting with a dazzling array of colours and joy. Children skipped around with their parents, sporting their own pint-sized tutus and sparkly unicorn wings, while seasoned tutu-wearers danced to a classic 70s disco beat playing from a portable speaker. Even the market stall holders seemed to be in on the action, with some adding splashes of glitter to their wares and everyone indulging in a bit of bubbly laughter.
It was clear that the magic of unicorns had seeped into every corner of the market. And honestly, what could be more wonderful than watching little girls’ eyes light up as they twirl and laugh in their shimmering costumes? You know what they say: when in doubt, add glitter!
Of course, the day wouldn't be complete without a good old fashioned Tutu Tuesday fashion show. We lined up outside the old clock tower, ready to strut our stuff and show off our unique unicorn-themed interpretations. We saw mini-tutus, perfect for sassy prancing, and even tutu-skorts, combining practicality and the fun of tulle in one amazing design. Each outfit was a showcase of creativity, showcasing how even a classic silhouette could be transformed with a little bit of imagination.
