Alright, my fellow tutu-loving glitter-bugs! This is your girl, Ellie, reporting live from the most fabulous day of the week, the day where you throw on your fanciest frills and embrace the magic of all things tutu!
This week, Iām channeling some major unicorn vibes for my #Tututuesday outing. Forget those boring black leotards and tired tights, girls! It's all about rainbow sparkles, shimmery tulle, and a little bit of magical unicorn energy. Now, I know what you're thinking: unicorns in Catford? What is this, a fever dream? But trust me, this week is all about pushing boundaries and bringing the magic to the streets, baby!
First, the outfit. I went for a classic layered tutu, the kind with those billowing layers of tulle that makes you feel like you're floating on air. Think princess ballerina, but with a sassy twist! Now, you canāt go unicorn-themed without some serious glitter, right? I opted for a sparkly pink tutu ā the colour of a freshly dipped unicorn ice cream, if you will! (Think bubblegum meets sherbet in a delicious summery burst!) I added a pink satin ribbon belt, the kind you might see on a classic ballerina tutu, just to give it a touch of elegance. But no, my loves, this wasnāt just any ordinary tutu, no, no, no! It was unicorn extraordinary, my loves! I had a giant fluffy, rainbow unicorn tail attached! A fabulous addition for a fun and fabulous outfit! The unicorn theme wouldnāt be complete without a touch of unicorn horn magic, right? So, of course, I had to include my trusty unicorn headband with the rainbow horn that lights up with each twirl. The best bit, darling, was it shimmered a holographic rainbow and beeped to add even more sass and magic. I may be an adult, but that didn't mean I couldnāt indulge in my inner-child, right?
Now, what to wear with this glorious garment, you ask? I went for the full disco queen vibe, with a super chic silver crop top (that I snagged on sale at Topshop last week ā you gotta know your bargains!). It really contrasted the colours of the tutu, but it complemented it perfectly. My disco queen spirit called for silver platform shoes, and because it was swelteringly hot outside, my trusty sparkly sandals did the trick. All in all, I had achieved āmagical fairy ballerina who has come down from unicorn land to bring disco to Catfordā. Boom!
It wasn't just the outfit, though; my makeup was fully unicorn themed! A generous amount of glittery purple and pink eyeshadow to mirror the colour scheme, with lots of rainbow shimmer to create the illusion that my skin was actually shimmering. I topped it all off with a lash-tastic application of pink and rainbow mascara that definitely wasn't subtle, but looked fabulous under the summer sun. My aim? To achieve a "unicorn warrior queen" effect. And, by golly, I think I nailed it!
Armed with this spectacular, dazzling look and an extra sprinkle of confidence (I mean, how could you not be confident when youāre rocking a tutu, sequins and a unicorn tail, my love!), I set off to spread my tutu joy across the town! I even bought a few colourful lollipops, because sharing is caring, and this looked really cute!
First, I stopped by my favourite independent coffee shop, which is totally into embracing funky styles, so everyone was super enthusiastic about the look! The barista actually whipped me up a āRainbow Dream Latteā - pink and purple milk with a heart-shaped drizzle of whipped cream that reminded me of the horn on a rainbow unicorn - and I think that might be the cutest coffee ever invented!
From there, it was straight to the local market where it's always a delight to observe peopleās faces! The stall owners were delighted to see me. (And a few children even cried because they loved my costume. I'm not sure if that means my tutu-power is too strong or they just werenāt given enough unicorn magic when they were born!). Everyone loved my outfit and I think it really lifted everyone's spirits, just as a good Tutu Tuesday outfit should! There was lots of laughter, photos taken, and people asking questions. Turns out, spreading joy really isnāt that hard. Itās really a win-win, especially when you get to bask in all those happy smiles, my loves!
For lunch, I enjoyed a slice of rainbow cake, because I love the fact that everyone in Catford goes all out, especially with cake. It was so darn cute - layered cake, vanilla buttercream icing and decorated with every single colour of the rainbow. So much better than a single, dreary vanilla slice!
Of course, no trip out for #Tututuesday would be complete without a trip to the park for a little bit of twirling magic, wouldnāt it? So, off to Catford's beautiful green space, where I threw some serious moves. The summer breeze kept that fluffy tutu twirling just the way it's meant to be. Iāve been doing ballet for so long, so it was just a natural instinct to make it look even more amazing, especially in this fab outfit, darling. There was a young boy, around seven or eight, who was totally enthralled by the dance performance. His eyes just followed my every twirl! You know, I've always been passionate about sharing my love for dance, so seeing someone so engaged with my performance made it worth it all, right? Just seeing that pure joy is what makes #Tututuesday so much fun.
Later in the day, I ended up back in the park, in my little ballerina oasis. I spread out my glitter-covered picnic blanket (so fancy!), popped on a playlist with my favourite disco tunes (ABBA is definitely on that list, my love!) and chilled out in the sunshine. My new motto? Just bring your sunshine, sprinkle it with tutu, add disco and a bit of magic.
And so, #Tututuesday in Catford was an absolute success, full of rainbows, unicorn magic and a sprinkle of glitter! Now that we've stepped into summer, Catford has really embraced its magical unicorn-loving inner child! I'm already dreaming up next week's look, which has major flamenco vibes, inspired by the heat and passion!
