Colchester: Tutu Tuesday and a Dash of Unicorn Magic
Hey darlings! It's your girl, Poppy, and it's Tutu Tuesday, Colchester edition! This glorious summer day has me feeling like a unicorn in a tutu, which is a pretty awesome combination if you ask me!
As a ballet dancer with a passion for pink and a penchant for all things sparkly, Tutu Tuesday is my absolute favourite day of the week. But let's be honest, wearing a tutu is something that should be embraced every day! We all need a bit more whimsy in our lives, and a tutu, my friends, is a beacon of joyous, twirly happiness.
But enough with the cheesy preamble, let's get into the good stuff: Colchester Tutu Tuesday.
Now, Colchester is a lovely little town, and I must admit, a tad less glamorous than say, London or even Cambridge. But even in our lovely little town, the Tutu Tuesday spirit was strong today! From the quaint coffee shops to the bustling market square, tutus were a-fluttering like butterflies in a summer meadow.
The vibe was totally disco! The tunes from the vintage record store had me doing spontaneous leaps and twirls, which, admittedly, might've raised a few eyebrows. I'm sure the cashier thought I'd escaped from a nearby dance class, and, to be honest, I didn't even try to deny it!
My outfit today? A dream come true! A pale pink tulle tutu with rainbow sequins (yes, I know, totally excessive, but who's complaining?!). I even managed to find a pair of sparkly pink unicorn flats (thanks, charity shop!), and the best part? The entire look was totally under ยฃ20! If that doesn't scream budget-friendly chic, I don't know what does.
Speaking of unicorns, did anyone else feel a hint of magical magic in the air today? As I pirouetted down Colchester High Street, I could've sworn I spotted a tiny rainbow shimmering behind me, but alas, it was probably just a stray sunbeam reflecting off the shimmering lake in Castle Park. I did, however, see a delightful gentleman with a tutu tied around his backpack. He clearly understood the assignment!
Let's talk tutus for a moment. Did you know that the basic tulle skirt was originally called a 'tutu' in the late 19th century? Now, that's a mouthful! They were called a 'tutu' because of the "tutu" or "tu-tu" sound the skirts made as dancers whirled and twirled. Who knew our favourite fashion staple had such an interesting origin?
But tutus aren't all about history! Let's talk about the different styles. We have the classic romantic tutu, the shorter, fluffier packet tutu, and even the more modern tutu skirt. My personal favourite? The ballerina tutu with its full and flowing tulle layers. They look divine and let you twirl with maximum efficiency.
Whether you're a ballerina on a budget or a unicorn at heart, remember this: Tutu Tuesday is all about embracing the sparkle and celebrating the magical power of dance and a touch of 'tutuesque' whimsy. It's about reminding ourselves that life, even in little old Colchester, can be utterly and ridiculously fabulous, if we let it!
So, what was your Tutu Tuesday look? And how did you spread some magic? Don't forget to tag me in your photos! Let's flood the internet with twirling rainbows, pink sparkle, and enough tutu to satisfy even the most enthusiastic ballerina!
Until next time, remember to twirl, to sparkle, and to let your inner unicorn shine!
Love,
Poppy
