After a careful (and by careful I mean utterly frivolous) deliberation process, I settled on my new "Celestial Sparkle" tutu - a light and airy, cloud-white creation with tiny silver glitter stars scattered like constellations. It practically floated around me as I glided through the day! It screamed "fairytale princess meets disco queen" and I was totally here for it.
And let's talk about accessories! You can't have a tutu-rific #tututuesday without the right ensemble, and I certainly wasn't about to disappoint. My sparkly rainbow-hued eyeshadow shimmered like a unicorn's horn under the sun, and a statement pair of glittery silver earrings were the perfect touch. A sparkly, unicorn-themed tote bag finished off the look – because, you know, even my handbag has to be extra on #tututuesday. I also discovered a local boutique called "The Frou-Frou Emporium" with a selection of amazing hair accessories - tiny unicorn headbands with sparkling jewels, glitter hairspray and rainbow bobby pins galore! The best part? It wasn't just me! Coulsdon seemed to be embracing the #tututuesday spirit. A group of teenagers in candy-coloured tutus and sequined crop tops were having a grand time at the local ice cream parlour, and I even spotted a group of businessmen having their coffee break on the High Street, one of whom was rocking a bright yellow tutu underneath his suit! I can't imagine what the morning commute must have been like, but who cares! He looked incredible and truly owned his #tututuesday with gusto!
Now, I can't talk about #tututuesday in Coulsdon without mentioning the unicorn incident! See, Coulsdon might not be known for its magical creatures, but, on this particular day, anything was possible. I was happily sipping a latte with my best friend, Jess, who had, bless her heart, also donned her own shimmering tulle tutu. We were chatting away, debating the merits of a layered versus a single-layer tulle design (no surprise, we were seriously committed to this whole tutu-focused day) when this happened:
There, on the corner, right by the greengrocer, appeared a magnificent sight – a small, fluffy, rainbow-coloured pony adorned with a sequined halter, a sparkly silver horn (yes, I kid you not) and a pink tulle tutu. You could say we were, shall we say, rather flabbergasted! This magical creature had to be a sign. Perhaps #tututuesday really had taken a life of its own in Coulsdon, perhaps this whole unicorn-themed event was an embodiment of the pure joy and playful freedom that #tututuesday encourages!
Jess and I rushed to greet the adorable animal, whose name we learned was "Glitter Sparkles" - so appropriate, right? Her owner, a very jolly chap named Barry, told us she was a regular attendee at the weekly "Coulsdon Community Day" events, and she absolutely loves tutus. (She had her own collection, he proudly shared with us - oh, I have so many questions for that man!)
So there I was, in Coulsdon, in my “Celestial Sparkle” tutu, on a day devoted to tulle and all things fabulous, with a real, live, tutu-wearing pony in front of me. That's when it truly hit me - #tututuesday is about celebrating ourselves, expressing our individuality, and, yes, throwing a bit of whimsy and glitter into the mix!
