It's that time again, darlings, Tutu Tuesday has graced our fair town of Darlington, and this week, the theme was pure magic - UNICORNS! Okay, let’s be real, every Tuesday is magical, especially when it comes to tutus, but this week, it felt extra special. It's like a cosmic ballet alignment. Like, tutus, unicorns, the sun's shining, it’s summer - and there's this divine disco playlist playing in the background. You know, that playlist that you listen to with the windows down and the wind blowing through your hair, the one where You Should Be Dancing blends seamlessly with I Will Survive and you feel like you could fly. And let’s face it, tutus kind of are wings.
Speaking of flying, let me tell you, the tutus were fabulous, just utterly fabulous! I spotted a full-length tutu in a glorious lilac colour, with a smattering of shimmery silver stars, which really gave the unicorn vibe, no? Another one had a classic single layer tutu that had little holographic unicorn horn charms trailing down the tulle. I was tempted to snatch that one up for myself. But let’s face it, even with the discount at Darlington Dancewear, which you guys totally know I love and you should check out, even I can’t hoard all the prettiness! Then there was this layered tulle tutu, kind of like a fluffy marshmallow cloud, in a deep, mystical lavender, which reminded me of the shimmering aura of a magical unicorn. Okay, so maybe I’m just projecting a bit, but this was just pure joy and good vibes.
And what were the unicorns doing? Oh darling, the unicorn vibes were everything. They were definitely feeling the spirit. Let me tell you, this town has truly embraced this magical theme! I saw an adorable kid, maybe four years old, sporting a pink tutu and a fluffy headband with sparkly silver horns, while her dad was pushing a stroller that was decorated with glitter and, yep, more sparkly silver unicorn horns. I have a photo of it on my Instagram story, so if you haven't seen it, you need to! And let’s not forget about the dogs, who weren't left out. I saw one poodle, dressed in a sparkly pink tutu that said "unicorn power" in rainbow glitter - just like her owner. Truly a powerful combo, don't you think?
But for me, it was all about the colours, really! Pink, lilac, lavender, silver, it was like a fairytale gone right. Pink, as always, is my favourite. It’s so energetic and lively and makes me feel so sparkly inside. That’s why my fave look for today was my pink tulle halter top tutu paired with a lilac shimmery tank top. It’s the kind of combo you could wear to the supermarket, or the pub for some cocktails with friends, or out to the theatre. Seriously, versatility is key. Oh, and of course, you HAVE to put on some sparkly silver heels, or your best pair of Doc Martens if that’s more your vibe - the Tutu Tuesday motto is all about being you, babe.
We need to give a huge shout out to our local coffee shop, "The Latte Unicorn," which totally embraced the theme. Not only were their pastries dusted with glitter and sugar flowers (hello, unicorn dust), but their "Unicorn Latte" was divine. Honestly, I may or may not have bought a few for the road, just so I could bring that unicorn magic home. You know how it is, one sip, and I'm channeling my inner magical fairy. It's truly something else.
The great thing about Tutu Tuesday is that it's a celebration of self-expression, which we all know is really important in today's crazy world. It's a space to embrace the playful and the fabulous, to forget the worries of the world, even for just an afternoon. Let your inner unicorn sparkle!
