Tutu Tuesday in Leith: A Rainbow of Sparkle and Glitter 🦄✨
Oh, hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-loving, unicorn-obsessed blogger here, ready to take you on a magical journey through the streets of Leith for the most fabulous #Tututuesday yet!
The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and my heart was aflutter with excitement because, you guessed it, it was time for my weekly dose of twirling in public! Today, my trusty companion (and the source of many a #OOTD) was a delightful creation of pastel pink tulle, layered like a delicate meringue, with shimmering silver sequins cascading down the skirt. It was a whimsical whirlwind of girly charm, and I felt like a sugarplum princess ready to grace the stage, albeit the stage of Leith Walk!
I decided on a classic 'bouffant' tutu style for today, as opposed to my usual "pack-a-punch" tutu options (think 'frisky frill' or 'super poofy'). I just felt a certain dainty elegance suited the sun-drenched mood of Leith today. I mean, let's be real, how could I wear my signature neon-green tutu with pink sequined unicorns, emblazoned all over it, in such glorious sunshine? I'd be too blinding!
But fear not, my beloved unicorn posse! Those glorious, mythical creatures are definitely not going to be left behind! They made their presence known in my dazzling rainbow unicorn horn headband and, of course, in my tiny sparkly pink unicorn backpack, lovingly embroidered with glittery "Let's Sparkle" lettering. Honestly, I don't know how I manage to carry everything with me in this adorable backpack! A pack of unicorn-themed marshmallows, my trusty unicorn horn lipstick, a miniature glitter bomb – all necessities for the discerning tutu-loving unicorn-obsessed!
I set off, twirling with the sun-kissed energy of a sugar plum fairy, catching the attention of a few locals and even attracting a small group of giggling children. One little girl, dressed in a sunshine yellow princess dress, stopped to tell me how much she loved my sparkly shoes (they were actually slightly over-the-top even for my standards – I can't resist glitter, can I? And the silver wings, oh, the silver wings! ✨).
The first stop of the day was at Leith Market. It’s a kaleidoscope of colour and delicious smells. The stalls overflowed with fresh fruit and flowers, a vibrant celebration of summer in all its glory. You couldn't help but be infused with joy, and, well, let's be honest, the joy simply had to be expressed in the form of an epic, flamboyant twirl. The locals were charmed. Some clapped, others cheered. Some even took pictures (and no, they weren't all paparazzi!)
Next up: The pier. Oh, the pier. With its sweeping views of the Firth of Forth, its nostalgic fairground atmosphere, and the joyous laughter of children and adults alike, this place is the epitome of fun in the sun. And for this tutu-obsessed fairy, it was a prime opportunity to perform an impromptu impromptu ballet performance!
My first act: a graceful arabesque pose on the wooden slats of the pier, the wind blowing through my tulle as if it were designed to catch the wind. Imagine, if you will, a delicate ballet dancer, framed against the picturesque blue of the Forth and a sky of cloudless perfection. Yes, that was me. (Cue dramatic slow claps in the background!)
Then, feeling the sheer delight of the sun, the gentle sea breeze and my sparkly wings (don’t ask me why I keep them on my back all the time. That’s a story for another time…!), I decided to give the audience what they came for: a truly spectacular, full-body, sparkly pink-tutelle twirling frenzy, complete with impromptu pirouettes and graceful fouetté sequences (if you don't know what those are, just google it… it's ballet, babes).
My tiny backpack did, however, get a bit much for my delicate shoulder muscles, so I decided to move to phase two.
This, ladies and gents, required a shift in my ballerina persona: A full, disco-tastic shimmy! Yes, I whipped out my favourite disco moves, complete with pelvic thrusts (sorry, Grandma!) and sassy shimmying, because if you're going to twirl in public, you have to OWN it, you gotta go big or go home, and for me, there’s no place I’d rather be than on the stage (which, on this glorious summer day, just happened to be Leith pier).
Finally, exhausted (but totally satisfied!) I grabbed a raspberry ice cream from one of the stalls on the pier (the Unicorn special naturally! Rainbow sprinkles and edible glitter? Sign me up!), and then found a spot by the promenade. The crowds continued to cheer my every twirl, even my little dance off with a very brave elderly gentlemen, in full kilts, who took it upon himself to bust a move (much to the amusement of all).
Leith, it truly was a #TutuTuesday to remember! It’s moments like this that truly remind you that joy and freedom are always at your fingertips, in the most unexpected places. All you have to do is embrace your inner fairy and go out and have fun!
Don’t forget to share your #Tututuesday adventures, whether you’re on the pier, the park, or even your own backyard! Because there’s nothing more wonderful than spreading a little sparkle and glitter into the world – and there’s nothing more wonderful than doing it in your tutu.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a unicorn horn shaped cup of hot cocoa to enjoy, a sparkly glitter bath to have and, of course, my very sparkly blog to update.
Until next time, let’s keep on sparkling, darlings! 💖🦄✨
