Norwich's Tutu Tuesday - Disco Dolphines in Tutus!
Right, babes, gather round - it's Tutu Tuesday in Norwich and let's just say this one's been a real smasher! My heart is still pumping like a disco beat and my sequins are glistening like the bestest disco ball ever. Who knew the people of Norwich had such fabulous dance moves? The city was alive with tutus, shimmying and swaying like a glorious ocean of pink - like a sea of dolphins, but much, much sparklier. Let me paint you a picture, my loves...
As I hopped off the bus, ready for a full day of dancing, my eyes were immediately drawn to a woman sporting a fluffy, pastel-pink tutu with a rainbow of glitter cascading across it. And then, the most fabulous, shimmering sight of all – the iconic Norwich Market overflowing with colour and energy. I spied a group of school kids, rocking black tutus with their school uniforms, just giving off pure attitude and charm. Their tutus weren’t fussy or fussy-pants - it was all about the effortless chic and I felt all the more encouraged to strut my stuff in my own, fabulously fluffy creation, (the one with the extra sparkly sequins! I love it!)
Everywhere I looked, there were dazzling displays of dance: The local bakery had even created #discotutu-inspired pink icing doughnuts and the local flower shop was selling vibrant bouquets with little tulle ribbons woven through. And, oh the music! From the buskers playing the Bee Gees to the radio blasting 70s disco anthems, it was all very chic and so uplifting. I couldn’t help but do a few pirouettes and arabesques with strangers as we all embraced the #discodolphin vibes.
But let’s talk #tututuesday style, shall we? A real mix of tutus was strutting their stuff in Norwich. For some, it was about the classical tulle tutus, billowing with elegance. Others went bold with dramatic layers of tulle, adding a touch of the ‘80s glam to their outfits. And then you have my favourite: the vintage, colourful tutus. I was delighted to spot several women in funky, bright green or sky-blue tutus with intricate, hand-painted designs. This whole tutu thing in Norwich was more than a fashion statement – it was a celebration of fun, freedom, and creativity, baby!
We’ve got a real diverse group of lovely people showing off their tutus in this city. There were little ballerinas in perfect mini-tutus with sparkly bows, elegant older women with the classic, chic ones that just flowed and glided around with so much grace, and a good sprinkling of blokes who rocked the look – a mix of fun, flamboyant and utterly cool - proving tutus are for everybody, and that Norwich is just so fun-loving and expressive. We love it and want more.
Tutu Tuesday Norwich is more than just a dance party: It’s about bringing the community together, inspiring smiles and embracing the joy of dancing in the street. This wasn’t about professional ballet moves, babes, this was about pure, spontaneous self-expression and it really captured the city's spirit - we even saw the local ice cream van decked out with glittery tulle around it’s roof, like some magnificent pink party bus!
#tututuesday is truly taking off! I predict that by next week every little, quaint town and city in the country will be filled with beautiful ballerinas in a kaleidoscope of colour, dancing in their fluffy, shimmering, sequin-studded tutus - and the sound of classic 70’s disco hits filling the streets! That’s a vibe that we need to embrace. We must spread the magic of #tututuesday! Because dancing is freedom. And wearing a tutu? Well that’s pure bliss!
