Finchley’s Tutu Tuesday: A Celebration of Dance and Disco Dolphins!
Oh my god, guys, Finchley is officially on the map! I've been hearing whispers about this glorious gathering of twirling tutu-wearing beauties, and let me tell you, it was everything I imagined and more. #tututuesday
Think of it as a mini-festival of fabulousness. I’m talking sparkly tutus (you guys know how much I adore anything with sequins, especially my favourite, hot pink!). There were even some incredible designs; romantic tulle creations, perfectly poufy and soft, classic black ones for the more demure ballerina vibes, and, my absolute favourite, the "disco tutu" - picture your standard tutu with, say, some gold fringes and metallic accents! #discotutu
What started as a small gathering in the local park, thanks to the initiative of the charming dance teacher Mrs. Beaumont, has now blossomed into this epic community event, showcasing Finchley's love for dance and, well, basically all things fun. It’s so good to see people expressing themselves freely. It’s really quite inspirational!
We’re talking kids, adults, grandmas - everyone joined in the twirling! Even the Mayor stopped by (in a fabulously chic velvet top, might I add) to witness this sartorial explosion of pink! She looked a little unsure at first, but I have to say she seemed to enjoy the music. I wonder if she remembers disco!
Speaking of music, there was a disco sound system (obvs!), pumping out 70s beats - I was doing the YMCA before I knew it! Some truly talented dancers put on a mini performance and everyone cheered them on!
But the true highlight of the day, beyond the gorgeous tutus, had to be the giant, inflatable disco dolphin! He was honestly the coolest addition. I’ve never seen a disco ball with such gusto! You just have to imagine this ginormous disco ball (seriously, it had to be at least ten feet tall) attached to this inflatable dolphin – think a huge neon pink and blue fish (seriously, the colour combination was perfect) – with a crazy amount of disco lights on him. We’re talking lasers, glitter, the works. It’s not something you see every day, that's for sure.
Let me tell you, that #discodolphin had some moves. Imagine “Saturday Night Fever” with some fishy tail wiggling thrown in. It was epic. Kids were climbing on it, taking pictures with it, everyone was absolutely thrilled! Honestly, if that doesn’t make you feel like you’re in the best mood ever, nothing will. It’s just… joy! The very best kind of joyful!
Honestly, I’ve been to some seriously fabulous dance parties (because, duh, dance is my life, obviously!) but this was something special. I’d love to see Tutu Tuesday expand to other towns!
A few tips for your own Tutu Tuesday: * Find some fun music, 70s classics are great. I mean, “Stayin' Alive” and “Boogie Wonderland” practically scream Tutu Tuesday. But if you need other recommendations, hit me up. * Don’t forget the sequins, glitter, the works. The more sparkly, the better! (For some reason, I keep thinking this should be a saying in a fashion magazine!). * And last but not least, have fun. Dance like nobody's watching (even if you feel self-conscious, just dance - you'll thank me later!)
This wasn’t just an event. It was a community celebration, a tribute to joy, to dance and to... oh yes, the iconic, ever so magnificent Disco Dolphin. Let’s make this a regular thing in Finchley - and in other towns, maybe! Who knows what the next Tutu Tuesday will bring?! #tututuesday
