It’s Tuesday, which means it’s Tutu Tuesday! And what better place to celebrate than in Beckenham? This quaint, little town has got some serious style, and the residents, well they know how to make an entrance. Today, my fellow Beckenhamers and I will be strutting our stuff, or rather, our tutus! I mean, there’s something about a tutu, don’t you think? It’s a statement. It says, "I’m here to have fun, I’m here to dance, and I’m here to feel fabulous!” 

**A little bit about tutu history** For centuries, ballet dancers have adorned their bodies with these iconic skirts, originally a practical undergarment for the female dancer. But over time, the tutu has evolved into a symbol of grace, artistry, and— dare I say it— sass! From the romantic tutu to the modern, minimalist versions, there’s a style for everyone. And let's not forget about the colourful variations. Some might opt for a classic white tutu while others might choose a vibrant red tutu or maybe even a shimmering silver tutu to show off their dazzling moves!

 
**My personal tutu collection** Speaking of tutu styles, I'm obsessed with the different kinds. I have a collection of tutus that would make even the most seasoned ballet dancer envious! For a classical, ethereal look, my go-to is the classic "romantic tutu", that fluffy, multi-layered, tutu. This type of tutu will bring to mind stories of romantic princesses and magical creatures! My “petit tutu,” with its short, tiered layers, is just perfect for a playful spin around the dance studio! I don't think anything looks more powerful and contemporary than my sleek, one-layered "modern tutu.” It’s basically a tutu without all the extra fluff, giving it a sharp, minimalist look.

 
**The beauty of the Tutu** One of my favourite things about the tutu is that it really lets my personality shine. There are so many ways to wear it! On a classic Tutu Tuesday in Beckenham, the skies the limit! For a modern twist, a colourful crop top and a statement necklace would make the ultimate Tutu Tuesday look! Or perhaps you’re a vintage fan, in which case, team it with a 1950’s cardie and platform heels! Whether it's a full-on performance on stage or simply a stroll through town, I can't help but feel a boost of confidence every time I put one on! There's a magic in it, don't you think?

 
**Dancing the day away!** My day has kicked off with a Tutu Tuesday workout at our local dance studio - a total sweat-inducing disco-themed workout, what else! That's right! Today, we'll be channeling our inner disco dolphins, shaking it like a true #discodolphin! There’s no better way to express yourself than through dance, and what better soundtrack to guide us through than our beloved 70s and 80’s disco music! We’ve been doing spins and leaps with those classic beats. As I'm spinning, all those iconic disco moves are bursting through my limbs – we’ve been grooving, flaunting, and twirling to music from legendary artists like Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, and Chic - they are the disco royalty. The vibe here in Beckenham is simply electric, full of energy and joy, and I'm so happy to be a part of it!

 
**Why the Disco Dolphin?** Speaking of dance, our little group here in Beckenham have also been spreading the joy and beauty of the tutu to our local children! We had an absolutely lovely afternoon leading a "Tutu Tuesday" class at our community centre, teaching young ballerinas of the future the finer points of Tutu Tuesdays, whilst enjoying the iconic disco dolphins! We’ve got this love of dolphins, with their energetic, playful nature - and who can deny their infectious smile. The dolphin also just seems so carefree and joyful, just like we’ll be at a #tututuesday event! Plus they can do these wonderful tricks, and have such a playful energy and we think these qualities mirror the feeling we’re all embracing today.
