Tutu Tuesday in Westhoughton: A whirlwind of pink, disco and dolphins
It’s been a glorious Tuesday morning in Westhoughton, and I’m not just talking about the sunshine! It's #tututuesday, baby! This town, usually known for its charming cobbled streets and quaint shops, was transformed into a vibrant playground of pinks and sparkles thanks to our collective love of tutus.
Westhoughton might be known for its peacefulness, but today we danced with our hearts open and our spirits high. I spotted everything from traditional romantic tutus, all layers of tulle and delicacy, to those fierce modern-day numbers that had the streets pulsating with the joy of movement. The street was a tapestry of different shades of pink, from pale ballet-slipper blush to the electric shock fuchsia - a riot of femininity that put the rainbow to shame!
My favourite part was undoubtedly the *Disco Dolphin* - a majestic, glittering creature, made entirely of recycled tutu scraps. He looked as though he’d just hopped out of a 70s disco, and I swear he winked at me when he saw me admiring him! Talk about a disco-ball glow-up. It was a statement that perfectly embodied the spirit of #tututuesday – creative, quirky and absolutely bursting with energy. I even spotted a few of the local kids spinning around him in their mini tutus, completely living their best dance lives.
Of course, what is #tututuesday without a good bit of music? The sound of a good, solid disco beat filled the air – you could practically feel the groove pulsating through the cobbles. It had me yearning for a time machine that would transport me straight to Studio 54. My disco heart, full of nostalgic happiness, went out to every person I saw with a smile on their face, moving their bodies to the irresistible rhythm.
- I even saw a tutu-clad ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ look-alike giving out free dance lessons to the crowd in the Town Square, complete with an impromptu choreographed routine.
- There was a fantastic tutu swap happening on the high street where you could trade any pre-loved tutus, and a special section of vintage tutus at a boutique - complete with sequins that sparkled with a light from a nearby disco ball hanging from the store’s doorway.
- At the Tutu Tea Party in the Town Hall, a beautifully choreographed dance piece set to an iconic disco classic brought tears to my eyes. It was magical - a glimpse into the passion and joyful art form that is ballet. This was an evening dedicated to remembering what truly unites us; we all dance, we all dream and we all love a little bit of magic in our lives.
It’s no surprise that Westhoughton is home to such a spectacular #tututuesday event – this is a town brimming with creativity and passion. You only have to step onto the high street to feel the energy! It was simply contagious. You know, a good day is all about bringing people together, igniting that spark of joy that we all crave deep down. That is exactly what #tututuesday did today - and I'll be keeping an eye on next month’s event for sure!
To my fellow tutu enthusiasts and all my fabulous disco dolphins, I look forward to the next big tutu adventure! Let's keep the rhythm alive!
