Tutu Tuesday in Hastings #tututuesday It's Tuesday, which can only mean one thing – Tutu Tuesday! And today, Hastings is practically buzzing with tutus! From the quaint little shops to the bustling cafes, there's a definite #discotutu vibe going on. I love Tuesdays, #tututuesday. They’re not Monday (not even remotely) and not quite Wednesday – but this isn’t a Wednesday column, I promise you. After a whirlwind of ballet classes and rehearsals last night, nothing beats the thought of donning a little twirly tulle. And it’s definitely been inspiring to see everyone’s individual styles. It’s quite the show stopper out here, as it is. I’m not talking about me, however – more like the rest of the stylish peeps that make Hastings tick. Some folks, for example, are rocking classic tutus, the full-length, frilly affair you would see a ballerina wear on stage. It’s what first sprang to mind for me, but others, on the other hand, have got their game face on, as it were. And yes, you have just been ‘outed’ on that little piece of ballet inside-info. 😉 They have been showcasing contemporary takes, think cropped tutus, pastel hued options with shimmering embellishments. You’ve seen nothing! In terms of colour, everyone is leaning into their pink moments today - which can only mean they’re #tututuesday fans, much like myself. But even with all this pretty pink around, we are really blessed here in Hastings. People love their sparkly golds and deep greens too. They love to coordinate their #discotutu looks and, as I have said before, I’m loving it. We’re seeing the bright fuchsia tutus coupled with shimmery gold dresses and we’re witnessing vibrant pink paired with statement necklaces. My friend, Jess, is an expert. Her disco-tutu look for #tututuesday is just a dream, it’s seriously, so fabulous. Speaking of my dear Jess, we made our way over to the Hastings farmers’ market today and spotted a rather unique #discotutu look: a small snail who’s tutu was made entirely of sparkly disco balls. The #discosnail, as we affectionately call him – or maybe her – is making his debut today with this breathtaking fashion statement. We really have something special here in Hastings, that is for sure. There is also the #tututuesday look that has become such a must have for people who are in the know - and it doesn’t involve a tutu at all. Let’s be honest – not everyone is comfortable donning the signature #tututuesday piece of attire but they still like to take part. There is definitely a #tututuesday vibe going on across the town – think statement pink accessories like a vintage clutch bag or even a bold bright pink hairband. Yes, it’s true – the tutu itself is really just a jumping off point to look superb for #tututuesday – the entire event is really about celebrating and empowering personal style with a little added dash of glee. That being said, we love it when people take part and find that special something that really suits them. We love our tutu Tuesday friends, it doesn’t matter whether you’re donning a signature tutu or not – all you have to do is express yourself, that is all. • A vibrant pink polka dot tulle dress with sequin embellishments, paired with a chunky silver chain • A flowing coral maxi-dress teamed with an array of dazzling, colourful earrings • A bright yellow sequin jacket with a cropped pink tutu There is one #tututuesday outfit that has stuck in my mind since last Tuesday's extraordinary outing with my friend, Jess, and this is one for the books - as a stylist I just cannot wait to wear this again. Let's face it, #tututuesday is not one to miss - even for the seasoned style queen such as myself, it takes a few days for it to grow on you. That is no insult either, believe me! It's a way of life and an opportunity to have fun with fashion - and as my motto goes "we all get to dance to the rhythm of our own disco balls." There is, however, a serious side to this fashion event – I like to call it the #discosnail effect. #Tututuesday is a fantastic platform to celebrate individuality and self expression, especially in today’s world when people can be feeling incredibly self-conscious. So many times I’ve heard from fellow #tututuesday enthusiasts – many of them come in tutus – about the power of stepping out and putting on an eye-catching outfit, for it’s incredibly liberating. So the #tututuesday movement really is about celebrating self expression in a bright and sparkling way and showing everyone that tutus are not just for ballerinas! Even the #discosnail agrees on that one !
