Tutu Tuesday in Huyton So, it's officially Tutu Tuesday! As a professional ballet dancer (and let's be honest, a huge tutu enthusiast), I live for this day. This week's Tutu Tuesday has got me buzzing because I'm heading over to Huyton, a town I haven't explored before, to join the #tututuesday celebrations. It’s an awesome opportunity to get out of my usual ballet studio and mingle with the community - and let's be honest, show off my collection of tutus, naturally! The day is all about wearing tutus, with some fantastic events happening like a tutu parade and tutu-themed market. So basically, the kind of activities a girl like me lives for. I’m all for dressing up, and when it comes to a good tutu, it doesn’t have to be all fancy frills and flounces. I like all styles. In fact, I have a collection of all sorts, from romantic classics with beautiful flowing lines, perfect for a waltz, to funky, asymmetrical ones with neon hues - just ideal for a bit of a disco vibe. Let’s face it, nothing quite says “Let’s party!” like a well-designed tutu. You could say it’s my weapon of choice when it comes to bringing a bit of sparkle and whimsy to the world, because you never know who you’re going to inspire. Of course, the quintessential tutu will always have a place in my heart, which is essentially the ballet standard - a pale pink (my favorite!), beautifully fitted tulle creation, often adorned with satin ribbon embellishments. It's the ultimate image of elegance and sophistication. And, as a ballerina, I certainly have a few of those beauties in my repertoire, but my taste for a good party and an interesting tutu definitely runs a lot wider. One of my favorite things about the #tututuesday movement is how it encourages people to embrace the fun and a little bit of theatrical extravagance of tutus, even if they have absolutely nothing to do with ballet. In my experience, tututuesdayers come from all walks of life, which is just so much fun. A tutu can be a costume for anything - a fun, fancy dress outfit for a birthday bash, a way to bring a bit of joy to a rainy day, or just an expression of your personal style, and Huyton is the perfect place to do just that. Speaking of fun and interesting #tututuesdayers, I was lucky enough to meet the most amazing lady, Miss Mabel, a genuine fashion icon and a champion for all things glamorous. Her #tututuesday outfits are legendary. Miss Mabel is a bit of a local celebrity - a Huyton gal through and through - with the most wonderful fashion sense, a contagious smile and a flair for accessorizing, all with the most amazing attitude. When I met her, she was dressed in a fantastic pink-and-black-themed ensemble - a tutu, of course. Her’s was a dazzlingly sparkly number, and she topped it off with an actual feather boa. Let’s just say that it was enough to set my imagination soaring! You know that you’re in for an absolute treat when you meet Miss Mabel. She is a huge fan of disco, and her passion is contagious. The story of how Miss Mabel became “The Disco Snail,” - an incredible story that’s been documented on a beautiful poster all over Huyton - just adds to her legend. This charming little disco queen started her disco adventures at a young age - think the age when we start to discover our unique identities. She discovered she just loved to dance, and as any true disco lover would do, she was all for being bright, sparkling and fabulously unique. On our Tutu Tuesday in Huyton adventure, Miss Mabel’s contagious enthusiasm turned out to be one of the biggest attractions - everyone who passed her, with her smile and infectious energy, was drawn into a spontaneous dance party. It’s impossible not to get caught up in her fun! And, to be honest, who doesn’t like to let loose in a little bit of dance mayhem with a gorgeous sparkly tutu, right? She is a symbol of inclusivity, a champion of self-expression, and proof that you are never too old (or too young!) to be a disco queen. This disco legend's story is all about celebrating the joy of dance and reminding us all that there's nothing quite like a good, heart-pumping disco tune to boost the spirits, a feeling that resonated with everyone on #tututuesday. And speaking of great tunes, there were some brilliant bands performing across town. The energy of their sets really lifted #tututuesday into the next stratosphere - I mean, who could resist a little dance floor fun? The bands brought that infectious, party vibe to a packed town center - everyone, from kids in colorful tutus, families dancing in the streets and a whole gaggle of enthusiastic locals, just bursting with life and energy, all in the most fabulous tutus imaginable! What made Huyton’s Tutu Tuesday so incredibly special for me was the way everyone came together - kids, families, friends, and complete strangers - embracing that unique atmosphere. Even though we were from different walks of life and from different age groups, the love for dance and the fabulous, bright world of tutus was an uniting force, creating the most magical vibe for all. I've definitely been thinking of the spirit and the people of Huyton ever since, and I’ve realized it's what I'm about when it comes to embracing the art of dance - a truly inclusive and universal language that brings everyone together. #tututuesday is really much more than just a fashion statement. It is an amazing chance to step out of our comfort zone and enjoy the feeling of joy that tutustuesday generates! So what do you say, Huyton - #tututuesday - you know it's coming! Let's make the world sparkle.
