Basildon Tutu Tuesday: Where Disco Dreams Meet Ballerina Dreams

So, it's Tuesday, and you know what that means! It's time to dust off your dancing shoes, crank up the disco tunes, and get ready to twirl, because it's **Tutu Tuesday**!

For all you fabulous fashionistas out there, you know the feeling. We've all had those moments where we want to channel our inner prima ballerina, but reality – well, it gets in the way. However, there's a new kind of magical realism sweeping through the streets of Basildon, and it's all thanks to a cheeky little hashtag: #tututuesday.

You might be asking: how did Tutu Tuesday become such a big thing in Basildon? Let me tell you a story. It started with a sprinkle of fairy dust, a touch of disco glitter, and a girl who just loves a good twirl.

Let’s be honest, ballet is pretty glamorous – even if it’s only ever for a few hours every Saturday morning. You get to wear those stunning, romantic, pink tutus with big puffy skirts. Honestly, who wouldn’t want to live in a tutu all day long? Sadly, though, unless you're on stage, a fluffy pink tulle tutu on the high street would raise some eyebrows and quite possibly some awkward stares. So, here's what happened. It dawned on me: why don't we wear tutus everywhere, all the time?! The world needs more twirls! I started with a few of my fellow dancers – we donned some simple tutus, all with different designs. It didn't take long to realise – everyone loves a bit of tulle and glitter. So, Tutu Tuesday was born! And we decided to start with Basildon, our favourite place to spot some cool and stylish folks.

And let me tell you, it's been nothing short of amazing. We've seen all sorts of incredible tutus - everything from the classic romantic ballet tutu, with its huge layers of beautiful, gauzy tulle to modern tutu designs. One of my favourites was this really fun disco tutu - it had all the colours of the rainbow! Some people even went for a more practical everyday look, with stylish short tutus made from satin, lace, or cotton in all different colours. Even a little snail I spotted by the flower shop sported a pink disco snail-tutu – I have a feeling he might just be starting his own #discosnail fashion empire.

Let me tell you about one of my fave Basildon tutu queens. There's this lady called Tracey who works in the cafe – every Tuesday she pops in with her own bespoke, shimmering green and silver, 80s style tutu complete with feathers and an eye-catching red feather boa. It's just so incredible. And she even whips out her best dance moves while she's serving the customers. Seriously, you need to see her go for it! Her smile is as big as her skirt!

And it's not just about the fashion – Tutu Tuesday is all about embracing a sense of playfulness, laughter, and spreading the joy of twirling. I mean, why let it all out just on the dance floor? We want to twirl in the streets, twirl in the supermarket, twirl on the bus. We want the whole world to embrace the beauty of a good twirl! I reckon, the next step is making it #worldtutueday, let’s do it!

What are the things that make this a fab day out in Basildon?
