Carshalton: Tutu Tuesday Takes Over the High Street!
It’s official, Carshalton is now my favourite town. The weather was gloriously sunny and the streets were brimming with glitter, sequins and – of course! – tutus! I love everything about Tutu Tuesday in Carshalton and today's turnout didn't disappoint! I felt like I'd stepped onto the set of “Saturday Night Fever,” and my tutu-clad heart was practically bursting!
For those not in the know, Tutu Tuesday is a monthly event here in Carshalton that encourages locals to don their finest tutus. The shops join in with amazing displays, and the energy in the town centre is absolutely electrifying! This is more than just a fun day out – it’s a celebration of all things sparkly, and the power of community. Everyone comes together, regardless of their age, background or tutu style - the only thing that matters is that we’re all rocking it in our twirling finery!
As soon as I got there, the colours struck me – pinks, purples, and emerald greens, all sparkling with a dazzling sheen. I spotted a tutu-clad granny rocking a tutu made from hundreds of rainbow-coloured sequins! I saw an adorable toddler twirling in a beautiful lavender tutu, and two best friends wearing gorgeous peach and mint coloured tutus! The beauty of Tutu Tuesday is that everyone looks fab and confident in their tutus – from the teens in their black ballet tutus to the older generations, who embrace a vintage aesthetic in all its glory.
Of course, my eyes were drawn immediately to the Tutu Shop, a quaint and quirky boutique filled with all the latest in tutu designs! From romantic ballerina-style tutus to bold layered tulle tutus, there was a tutu to flatter every style and personality. I picked up a gorgeous sparkly silver tutu with a black velvet ribbon and decided I absolutely needed to add a dash of disco to my #discotutu outfit. This shop is definitely a must-visit for any serious Tutu Tuesday enthusiast.
But Tutu Tuesday isn't all about tutus – there's so much more! My personal highlight of the day was definitely the Disco Snail. Let’s be real, you can't mention a disco-inspired event without a disco snail, can you?! This charming creature – complete with a disco ball on its shell - is truly a sight to behold!
The music was fantastic too. Live DJs played everything from the classics – ABBA, Blondie, Queen, you name it - to some amazing modern disco beats! I danced my heart out, lost in the music and the incredible energy of Tutu Tuesday. I felt powerful and free in my tutu – ready to take on the world and make some magic.
And let's talk about the food! Oh my god, the food! It’s impossible to have a disco party without some seriously tasty snacks and the vendors didn’t disappoint! I had a delicious pizza topped with a whirl of colours that put the disco balls to shame, a giant rainbow cake, and the most scrumptious cupcakes!
Tutu Tuesday is a fantastic event and one that I know I’ll be back for next month!
