Slough: Tutu Tuesday Takes the Town by Storm!

It's Tuesday, which means it's time to embrace our inner ballerina! But here in Slough, we do it with a sprinkle of glitz, a dash of glamour, and a whole lot of disco fever. Yes, my darlings, we're talking about Tutu Tuesday, a celebration of the iconic garment of dance, brought to the forefront in a whirlwind of fabulous, fuchsia, and freestyle fashion.

This week's theme? #DiscoTutu! Get ready to groove and glide through the streets with a twirl or two, and remember, there's no such thing as too much sparkle! The dancefloor is calling!

The Slough Ballet Society organized a "Tutu Walkabout" through the heart of town, transforming a regular Tuesday into a pink-tinted parade of pirouette-loving locals! From classic tutus of white tulle, embellished with sparkly diamantes, to those that looked like they were straight out of Studio 54, this parade was a sight to behold. And for those who want to put their own personal spin on the trend, don't be afraid to experiment! Go for neon, go for patterns, go for a mix of tulle and sequins! After all, the fun is in the expression.

As we walked down the high street, heads turned and smiles blossomed. We caught a few impromptu dance routines, some adorable tutus on toddlers (even their nannies were in on the fun!), and saw the most delightful sight – a disco-ball-covered snail with a tutu crafted out of tiny bits of glittery fabric! Yes, #DiscoSnail! Slough has embraced the #TutuTuesday trend with serious enthusiasm!

Of course, no Tutu Tuesday celebration would be complete without a few words about the evolution of the tutu. For centuries, this iconic garment has undergone many metamorphoses, evolving from the traditional long romantic tutu seen in Swan Lake, to the shorter, more playful, and often-diminutive, "packaway" tutu that allows for incredible leaps and dynamic movements! Each design tells a unique story about the history of ballet and how its aesthetics have changed through the years. But let's face it, no matter what the style, there's simply no other garment that says "ballet" like a tutu does.

As I slipped into my pink packaway tutu and took my position in the Tutu Walkabout line-up, I felt a sense of pride in Slough's embracing of such joyful and eye-catching expression! Here's to embracement, exuberance, and of course, #TutuTuesday, #DiscoTutu – let the twirling begin!
