Newtownards Tutu Tuesday: A Night of Twirling, Glitter, and Disco Snails

Hey loves! Your girl, Anya, is back with another juicy post! This week I'm bringing you the lowdown on Tutu Tuesday, the most fabulous event to hit Newtownards since...well, probably ever!

Now, as a ballerina at heart, a good tutu is my religion. But Tutu Tuesday wasn't just about any old tutu. Think shimmer, sequins, and those gorgeous, multi-layered, floaty tulle masterpieces. Think "I'm a sparkly disco princess" but with a healthy dose of Belfast charm. My fave? Definitely the classic pink with an explosion of rainbow feathers. (Yes, feathers. That's what makes Newtownards fabulous.)

But Tutu Tuesday wasn't just about the outfits. It was a night of dancing, glitter, and good vibes, all culminating in the legendary "Disco Snail" - the ultimate test of Newtownards dance-floor etiquette.

For those of you who don't know (and I judge you not), the Disco Snail is a special move created for Tutu Tuesday. Think swirling, a dash of legwork, a sprinkle of disco flair, and an absolute disregard for the "no touchy" policy - the essence of Newtownards.

Here’s the lowdown of the night in a nutshell:

  • The vibe: The music was straight out of Studio 54 with a bit of a Celtic twist, of course! It had us dancing and giggling all night, like we were teenagers on a Saturday night. (Which I kinda was, minus the legal issues of the teens... ha!)
  • The Drinks: Nothing says Tutu Tuesday quite like a pink champagne cocktail, topped with a little edible glitter. Because what's a night out without some sparkles, am I right? We were sipping our way to disco nirvana, and if I saw you out there, you better have been doing the same!
  • The dancing: The Disco Snail took centre stage, with a twist for those who had the skills (like me!) It's like a ballet pirouette meets "Let's Groove," and the entire night felt like one massive choreographed routine. I was like "Tinkerbell on a Sugar High" (a pretty common description of me).

Tutu Tuesday? More like “OMG, Let's Dance! Tuesday”!!

It wasn't all about the Disco Snail and dancing though, it was the general joy and positivity that really made the night special. You could see everyone genuinely having a laugh - strangers making new friends and getting all "disco-ed" out together. That's the thing about Newtownards, you get a real sense of community!

But the absolute highlight of the night for me, besides the Disco Snail, was seeing everyone wearing their best tutus. Some had been professionally made, others were DIY masterpieces of fabric and feathers and glue. I spotted a few of those beautiful ballet tutus and it made my dancer heart beat faster - so classic and elegant!

If you're thinking of checking out Newtownards, I'd suggest doing so on Tutu Tuesday - the ultimate dance-off where your tutu skills can be put to the test, or, you can just watch me sparkle with a glitter-covered disco ball in hand and watch as I execute the perfect Disco Snail with precision and joy.
