Farnworth’s Tutu Tuesday: A Glittering Celebration of Disco and Dance!

Greetings from your resident ballet blogger and purveyor of all things pink and sparkly, Miss P! Today, we're taking a whirlwind trip to the vibrant town of Farnworth to explore the biggest (and arguably most fabulous) fashion trend sweeping the nation: Tutu Tuesday! #tututuesday

For those unfamiliar with this phenomenon, Tutu Tuesday is a joyous celebration of dance and personal expression. Each Tuesday, people from all walks of life, are encouraged to adorn themselves with tutus – be they classic romantic tutus, glamorous short tutus, sassy-yet-sweet mini-tutus, or even the coveted *disco-inspired tutus*, complete with iridescent sequins and flowing layers – and embrace the spirit of joyful movement.

Farnworth, my friends, is a hotbed for tutu-wearing enthusiasm, particularly on Tuesday. I can practically hear the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever as I walk down the cobbled streets, lined with tutus as varied and bright as a disco ball reflecting the sun.

I popped into a vintage shop called “The Dusty Attic” (utterly delightful!) where I stumbled upon a vintage "Peggy Sue" style tutu with a bright cherry red satin skirt. It was literally screaming for an eighties-themed makeover! Think, big hair, leggings, neon headbands… fabulous. They even had a beautiful pale pink, Victorian-style tutu – so delicate and ethereal – perfect for a classic ballerina look. And it was a total steal!

The café culture is phenomenal, too. Every cafe seems to be brimming with tutus. My friend and I grabbed a quick (and pink) iced latte in a new café called “Buttercups and Bubbles" . It had an absolute *glimmering* display of sparkly cupcakes, topped with fluffy swirls of cream in pink, gold, silver and shimmering turquoise — so adorable. (The girls who run it even had tutus under their apron, which I *might* have borrowed to take some fabulous Instagram photos).

Then, it was on to The Golden Fleece pub for a pint of lager and some chat with a few of the locals, a group of fabulously dressed middle-aged women dressed in pink sequin tutus – the whole thing had an *amazing* Moulin Rouge feel to it!

You know, they even have a mascot – "The Disco Snail"! Yes, you read that right! It's a pink and turquoise snail that appears on a trolley pulled by a couple of locals dressed as glamorous disco queens! If you ever see them, get a selfie for me! It’s truly a site to behold! The Snail made the news back in 2021 after the locals threw him a surprise 50th birthday party, all thanks to the *brilliant* organiser of Farnworth’s #tututuesday initiative.

Now, this trend isn't just about tutus – it's about bringing the community together in a joyous celebration of self-expression and a touch of disco flair! You can tell everyone's really got into it - whether it's a few sparkly embellishments to elevate a work outfit, a little pink fluff in their hair, or a full-blown sparkly extravaganza with a tutu so bright it makes the sun blush.

What started as a small idea in the town has gone international. I saw photos from a *fabulous* Tutu Tuesday held in London’s Covent Garden – a bunch of people even recreated some famous Ballet routines, from the beautiful, flowing movement of Giselle’s adagio, to the explosive energy of a pas de deux from Don Quixote! The energy was totally infectious and the Londoners embraced the idea wholeheartedly, even incorporating their favorite London landmarks into some of the Instagram posts. #tututuesday

Farnworth has taught me something. You don't have to be a professional dancer to enjoy the magic of dance, the fun of a great tutu or the delight of an eclectic mix of outfits! In fact, that's what's made it so popular – people are choosing their own personal interpretations of a #discotutu and adding a touch of their own individuality. It’s a fantastic way for people of all ages to come together, let loose, laugh a bit and make memories in a community that embraces *all* shades of pink.

See you in Farnworth next Tuesday! Remember, wear your tutu with pride and don't forget to share your sparkle with the world. Keep it fabulous, folks! #tututuesday #discotutu
